Interesting question!!

You know as well as I do that in life or business everything is a series of give and takes and there are always pros and cons to every decisions.

And where a HS may be a benefit during some parts of the flight regime. It may hinder your performance in other aspects of your flight.

I can't help and think of friends of mine that love to fly a Pitts special. They enjoy the aerobatic maneuverability of their aircraft they most certainly would not say that it is a good cross country aircraft although some of my friends that fly cessna 172's and 210's would say these were excellent for this.

So again , depends what you want and want to do...

Eben, you are still not answering his question. He wants to know what are the pros and cons of the HS and then he will make a decision if it is worth having it. Your previous answer does not explain that.

Ok, Here it is.....

You may have an agenda by asking such a question , because you know that what ever answer I give You. There are at least 10 so called experts that will tell you the exact opposite.
Fly in each make of aircraft decide which one you like. Then get the training you need to fly the aircraft of your choice. And don"t forget get the amount of training you need not some bullshit number that some other so call expert says you need.
Then you will have hunderds of hours of flying like I have Fact I have 600 hour you can check my log book all from a gated air port where a security gaurd has to sign for release to the air strip.

The hor stab is not the holy grail of gyro's almost any gyro will fly without one, if the CG is O.K .
The most basic thing is that it makes the airframe stable in the pitch moment, this is also not needed for a gyro to fly, just gives the pilot a solid base to use as reference when making flight inputs. Just like a trike the stick can be left to float and almost fly itself and just nudged every now and then to fly where the pilot want to go.
AHHH but this is just where the pawpaw hits the fan. US HOMOSAPIENS certainly makes mistakes ! ! ! and when a judgement error is made in a craft that does not repond cindly to lo G manauvers and negative AOA one want to be in a gyro that will make it as easy as posible to stay away from those conditions.
Maybe im just to dumb to fly without a hor stab, i buy sumthing with it.

I have sent a few emails (one to Upington & 1 to an existing RAF owner who is selling), i have had no reply the moment i asked them if the aircraft is safe and why has the main agents closed down Not sure why or what is the REAL TRUTH about this stabilizer thing

I kinda like the RAF because it is side by side and is semi closed - so why is no-one helping me out here???

I have a USA mag that has a photo of 10 red Raf 2000 and all have HS fitted Makes you think hey.
Contact some schools in the USA that train on RAF 2000 and ask if they have HS fitted on there school gyros and hear what they say????
I dont think you are going to get your answers in SA you must look in the USA, Canada and OZ.

The next problem is to find someone to approve your modified RAF in SA and test fly it. In the USA, the AP's approve and encourage such mods.
