Castrol Super Chainsaw Oil?

Postby Tobie de Beer » Wed Oct 17, 2007 12:45 pm

I used to get my Castrol Super Chainsaw Oil from Midas Centurion (by the box) - Now they claim that oil is out of production. Can anyone comment on that?

P.S. Sorry if this question has been asked - I could not find any reference.

Tobie

Just bought 10 litres this morning. It seems that there is a shortage in the 500ml bottles so I bought 2 x 5 litre - just have to decant.

I bought 10l last week directly from the BP depot in Olifantsfontein.
They were out of 500ml bottles so I bought 2x 5l @ R23.69/l.

In total it was R270 incl vat for the 10l.

Did anyone else heard this 'rumor' that the oil is not produced anymore.
A friend of mine - not on list - also got the same feedback and is looking at a shell alternative.

Is Aviations Engines still on the list - maybe he can give us some feedback / info?

I've still got about 5 bottles left so I'm in no big hurry. I'm just at the point of buying another box.

Winston,

Will it still be available in 500ml bottles?
As some feedback I got it seems that it is there were there seems to be
a shortage at this stage. - maybe leading to the suppliers telling us it
is not available anymore.

Thanks for your quick reply

Tobie

Hi Cutman,

As far as I know, Castrol TT is a synthetic oil, opposed to Super Chainsaw being a mineral oil.

The other main difference is the price. TT = +- R 90/l, whereas chainsaw = +- R 25/l.

There is a thread under technical regarding the use of mineral as opposed to synthetic oils...

viewtopic.php?t=4808

I use CALTEX Super 2T - It is a mineral oil and I use it in premix format 1:50

Please take note of what Boet had to say in the thread....
