Another new member, ApacheSport has a “lekker” website for those wanting to browse.

http://www.flynorth.com/

WHAT IS FLYNORTH.COM?
Flynorth.com started 1999. We encourage you to join and partake of the 50-60 pages of useful info. in the members pages. Our philosophy is to encourage low-cost flying and make a membership of lasting friendships. We cater to all levels of pilots from beginners to Military/Airline pilots!

I could get quite used to this as a home base

I would have thought in Canada you would need de-icing boots on trike, a dry suit with battery driven temperature control.

Home base looks awesome. I suppose floats would have been too simple.

Deep valley, big mountains, lots of wind, huge rotors, sweltering in the summer, freezing in the winter................

Welcome John Dale.

Spend 5 years in Germany and catching the bus at 5.30 one winter morning I asked the driver what the temp was -28 Deg Celsius he said.

I swore to myself that that was the last winter in a place that is white in winter. Africa for me with a small detour via Dubai.

Kind regards,

Thanks everyone who greeted me into the site. In a way everyone is right about our area, cold winters but rarely below freezing in nelson, lots of snow in the mountains, not a lot of flying in winter, great skiing, incredible scenery, many South Africans living here. Now summer is different, not many rotors at all and winds are just something you adapt to, Cessna or ultralight. Overall I am totally envious of your of your flying terrain and weather!!! After 35 years of flying all kinds of fixed wing planes I am discovering trikes and have bought a 38' diesel pusher motorhome with long trailer, enough to carry the Apache Sport trike and wing and then we are planning to travel north or south to find flying areas as far as Mexico and Alaska. There is a group called the Sky Gypsies http://www.skygypsies.com/ check it out there is a neat utube video there, and we hope to advance to spending time with them in the future. In the meantime thanks for the welcomes, I will follow with interest your forums. John Dale, Nelson BC Canada
