I agree this guy is an absolute idiot and a pathetic advertisement for a great sport with mostly responsible participants.

Well my problem was last night when I watched it MRS.Blue Angel had alot of questions and alot of doubt, I know it sounds pathetic but it is reality, I had to explain to her that this is not the norm. One question she asked was " Why could this guy not take off? is microlights so unsafe?"(keep in mind that she does not understand the weight factors in these a/c.)But I managed to explain to her all the things that he did wrong and it is the things we would NEVER EVER do to entertain.

1) Near miss with a jet,
2) Flying at night.
2) Disregard for CAA grounding instructions.
3) Crash on take off for ??? overloading.

Sorry, but this guy is not a very good ambasidor for the sport, especially for the newbies and wanna be`s......

This program would of been more appropriate on channel 66`s "air crash investigation" series. :!:

Idiot
Because he couldn't to start with. The program opens with him saying he is scared of flying, they mention he is scared of heights, he says he is technically inept. This guy was out to make a video, not an epic flying adventure. He wanted to carve his name in stone as "Brian Milton, One of Britains greatest 21st Century Adventurers" who would rather die trying, than not try at all. You probably find that he did just enough lessons to go solo ("Ah I can fly now" he thinks, "lets fly around the world, If I make it I'll be famous and make lots of money, if I die, I'll be famous")

At some point he sprouts some drivel about being in a near death experience and then only truly having lived, and this is what he was looking for out of this trip. I am amazed this dickhead is still alive.

From his website some other idiotic things he has done and brags about it
Brian Milton is a born adventurer. His first major expedition was in 1968 when he drove a battered Austin 7 Ruby across the Sahara Desert to meet his fiancée!! The car ran for 2000 miles on three pistons and 900 miles without brakes.
Why not fix the brakes?

In the write up about his book on the failed attempt across the Atlantic and the Canadian authorities trying to stop him from offing himself
Brian's account of a clash between cultures, in which ultimately, the bad guys won.

DOOSDELUXE

Why when running along the 4000ft runway and not being able to climb beyond ground effect at halfway mark, did he not land again and rethink. He even states out loud that he has to get out of this damn ground effect which was bouncing him around. (the only thing keeping him in the air at that stage). We all know that once in ground effect you need less power to stay airborne. Here he is at max throttle and he is barely in the air, how the hell is he going to continue climbing once out of the effect.

How much can a Blade lift? No wonder the authorities were unhappy with his tank.....
I have to totally agree with all.

He may have thought that he was above the law - but he certainly proved that he was not above the law of physics :

No wonder the aviation community out there regard us as a reckless bunch :( - not a particularly good add for our sport I thought.

...and as for trashing a perfectly good Blade 912 -

Seem to remember reading one of his earlier books about his first long trip and was quite surprised at the lack of planning and cowboy antics that were blamed on lack of experience.... stuff which the old Skyriders brigade bliksemed into us in the early 90's. Will probably end up being stabbed by a Marabou.....
Think of what the Wright brothers could have done with a Rotax!

The FAI have awarded him the Diamond Colibri and he received the Britannia Trophy from Prince Andrew - the Royal Aero Club's most prestigous award - awarded to the British aviator or aviators accomplishing the most meritorious performance in aviation during the previous year.

Doesn't sound as if they think he is a doos hey?

I thought the point he was trying to make was that he should be allowed to make the attempt just like all those blik aerie pilots that do regular ferry flights over the Atlantic are allowed to - all with add on fuel tanks which do not comply with regulations!

One question remains in my head : Why did he fly two days, about 700 km, without ever filling up the monstrious tank with fuel?
On both trips he almost ran out of fuel. If you plan on flying more than 3 000 km on one tank of fuel, why would you run out on the way to take off destination - 400 km ?

I agree, this all is a foefie for fame and selling of DVD's and books.

Imagine a DVD - Loading a trike with 600 kg for take off. No scenes of flying NY and the Statue. 10 mins of viewing - who will buy it ? :?
