Bought me an airplane =Cheetah 912 95HP

Postby Turbo » Fri Apr 05, 2013 10:11 pm

Hi all,

Time came for me to feed my RC planes some steroids and wow - one has grown into a full blown Cheetah 912 95HP big bore vhpy - taking delivery and sitting in her while the pilot flies her to Springs airfield where i purchased a hangar aswell. License time - here we come.

The plane has 304 hours on total time, and just had its 300 hour maintenance. im hoping to fly down for the Bloodhound some time in this year.

quick update on ICASA, Rainbow, CAA etc

Went to visit CAA with paperwork for transfer of ownership yesterday, went smoothly and quickly to my surprise - was expecting something you would recieve at the Dept of home affairs - glad i expected the worst and was pleasantly surprised.

Icasa -- just as surprised, got the email with invoice and details in 5 minutes, made payment and sent proof to them, license being processed ETA 2 weeks

Met Sideslip at Rainbow (thanks Paul for the effort) and booked plane in for next week Tuesday for inspeciton, throttle stick mod, new boot and to have paperwork done for ATF to be issued. Saw a bushcat with hydraulic disc brakes on -- nice piece of kit! Pity my undercarriage needs to be replaced to fit that, ill probably CNC this myself (with the CAA approval first ofcourse) cant afford the undercarriage mods right now.

Thanks Mike -- was nice meeting you, pity Johan is out the country, and the wait is so long, but it has given me chance to start studying, and almost at page 100 on the Jim Davis book.... easy stuff so far.

anyone else also doing their NPL at the moment?

Guys I must say I'm impressed with the service I received from Rainbow, the plane is inspected, the ATF in hand, and plane cleaned and ready to fly. I did a short stick mod aswell, and has new fuel drains installed, old ones blocked.

All completed in a short space of time, and now we hope and pray for decent weather -- Sunday looks like it might be ok to fly,.... Rain rain to away come back another day!!

Thanks for the kind words Turbo. We really do try.

Truth be told this is our suicide month (6 weeks!!) as we have a billion things to get done before our container arrives in a few short weeks to load our 2 demo aircraft and all our gumpf to be freighted to Oshkosh.

If anyone is inconvenienced by us being pre-occupied, my apologies in advance. Things will return to normal once the container leaves.

I still do wish you guys would do the necessary development and tooling so that we can get a factory approved mod for disc brakes for the 100 odd Cheetah's out there
But hey Mike... I bleated about that for so long

Love the Cheetah to bits... (^^)

mmmhhh that is a little something that i am certainly going to improve on my own Cheetah with existing undercarriage (Mike told me that the entire undercarriage needs to be replaced to fit their new Bushcat disc brakes R20K mod a bit pricey) - sure Mike, i know what you going to say, but you also know i have all the CNC equipment and experience to do this -- plan is a cnc two new billet wheels with mount points ready for a disc and caliper (to fit standard Cheetah undercarriage), bolt disc and caliper on, run braided lines (overkill yes, but there is a right way and a short cut - i prefer the right way myself) to a Brembo master cylinder(yes also overkill, but all i have lying around), bleed with Dot4 Honeywell fluid (yup lying around) and go -- :)

Mike -- one thing you forgot, was my LED's -- i saw Jeff's sling land this evening with those LED's on, and man o man does that aerie look beautiful with them LED's ...
