If I understand you correctly you are referring to the neat contraption with wheels on which the wing is resting. Whose contraption is it? I would like one too. This will allow one to put the wing down and push it into a lower hangar. Its also great for general wing maintenence. Where did you see it???

Couple things.
1. Is this sort of contraption common? I know guys use dolly's to store trikes "sideways", but never seen one like this that allows storange in "normal" (lower hangar door or maybe even garage)
2. Is it common to derig to hangar. There is a aquilla standing in a hangar here, but the wing has been derigged (hanging pap  ) to get it inside. How long would it take to rerig and is this a schlepp for half hr flight?
3. Does hangaring the wing in this way affect the life of the wing?

Excuse my ignorance...

Found it while lookin for he BRS stuff. http://www.first-light.net/index.php?section=1&page=17 Looks pretty simple and assume it could be made very easily.

RV4ker,

If the hanger is like mine, the entrance opening is too low for the top of the trike's wing, so you have to perform the goose manoever to get in and out...yip, it's a pain especially in the aquilla as the front wheel needs a little pulling over the bar....one reason why I flew mine less and less because it was far less PT to pull out a fixed wing instead....

Hu? That why I am asking. I keen to get one, but don't want to have to spend 2 hrs to rig and derig every time. I been flying less since I have to pull the Lance out and put it back twice every time I wanna go play...  Maybe a little fold wing 3axis is way to go.... (Anyone know if VP2 has fold wings :?: :?: )

RV,

You did'nt answer my question: Where did you see this dolly gizmo???

Its not common for sure. Most often seen as you yourself mentioned is a sideways dolly. Many many years ago Demon used to Hangar in a little store room near blue hills. He literally had to take his wing off each time and walk it into the room as it was not high enough to accommodate the trike and wing together. This gismo would have been very useful for him then. He will probably deny this useful bit of his history, but I remember very well :D

I am interested as it can come in very handy for washing the wing and doing maintenance etc.

Most people, except FAWG, actually measure the required trike height of the roof and hangar doors before they actually have their hangar's built or their doors installed. So its not really essential equipment...just nice to have.

modified our hanger for trikes at Tweespruit
Retrussed the roof in situ, and when completed cut out the offending V and voila 5 years later stil hasnt fallen down worth considering we did it over 2 weekends and now accomodates 4 trikes and 1 basic

When my architect asked me the question about hanger, I told him to use the same dimensions as the three hangers already built at what's landing to match in....forgetting that none of them flew weight shift trikes, although one of them flew a R44 helicopter which just gets in....with my bi-fold motorised doors, the trike was just too high....I did still own a hanger spot at the microlight field nearby, but after it was broken into and all our radio's stolen, I decided to relocate it.....

Yes, I could have kicked myself....1m higher would have donethe trick....too late now....

FYI
Hi George
I don,t have any plans just built it.It started out A small riding lawn mower.I used the frame and the steering tie rods, front axels and welded it onto A handle so it can steer. The handel removes for A tow handel for A tractor. A straight axel in the rear. Plywood for the top with A hole cut for the wheel with underlinning brackets to hold the bottom of the wheel. U channal aluminum for the trikes control bar.
I will get some pics for you Robert
I will post some more pics when I get them

Hi George,

The platform is 3 feet long by 1 foot wide. The rear wheels are 34 inches apart. And the front wheels are 2 feet apart. As you can see in the photo, the handle and the steering mechanism is made from 1 inch galvinized plumbing pipe.
Let me know if you get the photos ok.

Happy flying,
Robert

RV,

Thanks for all the trouble to get me those pics. I am very impressed with the dolly, it would be very useful around my hangar. I think I am going to get somebody to make one up for me.

It looks really useful for washing the wing and doing general maintenance on the wing. Also for moving the plane back and forth in the hangar. Especially useful for guys sharing a hangar like I am.
