And saying on national tv that you wil kill someone is to hang your self.

Well, I think those guys who deal in stuff know there way and will not invest in wanabee pilots the cargo/plane is far to expensive........they are good business man most of the time.

I was wondering, how will this affect the proficient pilots, that got their licenses through Rand Flight Academy. Will this kind of thing not cast a shadow of doubt on their abilities?

It's ok to point fingers at the people who we think are responsible for allowing this situation to develop into a tragedy in the hope that something is done about it, but what about the future. When I do my anual medical, and the doc says that I can't fly any more, it goes on my record at the CAA and thats that. So if a doctor can prevent a tragedy using his best judgement, why can't the instructors and the CFI from the three well reputed flight schools mentioned on the program lodge a note to the CAA referring to the SPL and saying something like "This student has completed 25 hours (example) of normal instruction and is unable to solo. And a new note every 25 hours. Then if he leaves said school and goes across the road and is licensed the next day, then somebody at the CAA will notice and take appropriate action. It's too late by the time the CAA has to investigate this type of accident.
I,m sure somebody on this forum has enough clout to instigate this type of corrective action. There is room to learn from this tragedy and I hope that the flight schools can be proactive in this because at the very least, their reputation and continued existance could well be on the line here

If you have DSTV Demmand it will be on there.
I watched it! It is actually sick! However, I do think that the father should not have let his daugter go with people he didn't know! Before my dad lets me fly with anyone other than Rae Henderson or Louis VW he always checks them out with Louis and meets them himself!
It is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO stupid to take bribes from people, especially in aviation, because if you have a problem in the air, you can't exactly pull off the road and check it out!
After 3 schools??? What the hell???? You should smell more than one rat if you have a student who has been through so many schools. The way the owner reacted to being accused of taking bribes is definatly fishy... I KILL YOU???? What?? That sounds like a guy who has definatly done SOMETHING wrong!
And those planes!!! NOT GOOD!! I always, subconcously, before getting into ANY private plane, walk around it to make sure it is good. Otherwise I WILL NOT FLY.
That's just my two cents...

As a matter of fact I happen to talk to guys who did it on rand. When they did the training the thought the planes on schools look like that as a fact. It was only after they got there PPL that they saw a whole other industry. Now the guys who bribed there PPL they were not good but the Training at Rand for normal not bribing students is most likely up to standards and they are maybe even better because they had to learn in shitty planes think about that one.....

This is a tragedy!! My concern is more towards the father who allows his daughter to fly with someone he does not know (or does he). It was mentioned that he is quite a senior in the SAPS organised crime unit. As far as I see he must have known them and as far as I know some of the Nigerians they are great sales men. So they must have B$#^%@ted him. Still my condolences to the girls family.
