LRP or 50/50 LRP AVGAS should be fine on the V-Dub
The timing runs fine at 25 - 28 degrees with a locked distrbutor or with mechanical advance loose at 25 - 28 degees at 3000 rpm.
Above specs of timing on Aerovee 2.1 , Great Planes 2.1 both with electronic pickup on flywheel.
Same timiming specs on 2.1 and 2.3 V-Dub from Arno van Wyk.
Try this it works on BB ZU-ASL with 2.3 owned by Brian Coetzer in BFN and BB with 2.1 owned by Pieter Swart in De Aar.

Agreed, the only reason I retard the timing is because of the turbo. Used to run my 2.1 Revmaster on a 50/50 mix as well at 26 degrees.PeterH wrote:The timing runs fine at 25 - 28 degrees

I messed up 2 VW engines with Mogas. Go Avgas and save yourself a lot of trouble!

See Stephan van Tonder's informed opinion on the previous page. I flew a VW type 4 on Unleadedkrjockey wrote:What happened?Flooi wrote:I messed up 2 VW engines with Mogas. Go Avgas and save yourself a lot of trouble!
and valves went. The engine was repaired and flew after that with Avgas only and it has since done
many hours with new owner trouble free.
