I have tried for about 6 weeks and probably 30 phone calls and still have not managed to speak to anyone at ICASA other than the receptionist. So how do i renew my radio licence????????????????????? :x :x :x
Take your license number and go and pay at your local post office. Keep reciept as proof of payment with your expired lisence. Then pray to recieve new lisence before it expires.

Hope this help.

Graham,

Morph is 100% correct, if it transmits the frequencies we use into ether (portable, mobile or base station), it needs to be licenced to the owner (also to be type approved to the manufacturer/distributor - the little sticker on it)

The licence looks like below 8)

My problem is poor young Iceman did all the necessary to transfer the licence to his name, I even got a credit from ICASA, but they still think I am the licence holder ... Eish :!:

They also state this piece of paper is not valid without "proof of payment" - so in this case I have the licence and Iceman has the proof of payment

hate to look into their database... :?

Cheers ian

Applied for and received a radio license last year when I flew to Namibia and Botswana into Maun because Botswana aviation authorities stated that hand held or not they want to see a license. Got a bill from ICASA recently asking me to renew my license or the equipment will be sealed and interest will be charged on all payments made after 31 Jan 2009. Mailed them a long letter explaining that I only got the license because I required one to fly in Botswana. Explained that it is a hand held and not fixed permanently to the trike. They still have not got back to me stating otherwise. Were has service delivery gone? It seems asif most people nowadays just want a job but no-one wants to work. :x
I sometimes get confused............But i'm not sure

Agreed, for us here in the Cape we regularly fly through FAD200, the General Flight training area, 125.8 Cape Town special rules west, Langebaan and Ysterplaat airspaces. In our case a Radio is compulsory. However if you are up in Loeriesfontein like Boet, then not so.

Icasa made it very clear to me, If you use a radio in the plane, handheld or not, you have to have a licence.

Morph, I never fly without switching my radio on, even up here, I transmit when flying in the circuit. For safety reasons. Getting your radio licence is no sweat. Getting RID of it when you sell your aerie, THAT is a problem.

Received my licence document yesterday (applied for in October 08). Valid until Dec 09.

I put both the installed radio and my portable on it.
