Hi Zimflyer
Welcome.
Lots of variables to consider when buying your kit, budget, what it is to be used for, builder's skill level, how soon you want to fly and so on.
Probably biggest bang for your buck will be a Bushbaby but requires time to build, skill level required not too high but will be reflected in the finished product.
Lots of Bushbaby builders here willing to help with advice.
I am an ex Zim myself.
Pm me if you want more gen.
Cheers
Rick

Ditto on the Progressive aerodine Searey, but Dept of Water affairs here will not allow use on water, so dream is all I do...
PS
I looked at Cheetah, Cubby, Savannah, BB (Explorer), Bantam. When you do all the numbers they start getting expensive when you add 912, EFIS and Chute, so I settled on an RV for slightly more (require PPL vs MPL)... The titan is awesome aerie, but was too pricy for my liking. Would depend on mission. If STOL the Svannah was first in my book. For crusing the others were close and it comes down to personal pref and access to help, but if I could get permission ti fly off the water I would go for the Searey...
Enjoy it....

Calling all Cheetah owners!
Come and celebrate the 100th Cheetah with Rainbow Aircraft!
We would be delighted if you would please join us at the Rainbow Aircraft hangar at Springs airport to arrive by 09:00 on Saturday, 31 January 2009 and participate in an impressive mass celebratory flight to show off our aircraft. We plan to take off soon after 09:00 to fly to Petit airfield, land there and return to Springs airfield shortly after a short break.
We look forward to having as many Cheetah pilots as possible attending this fun event, but everyone is welcome to fly or drive in to share in the excitement of the morning. Please let your fellow aviation enthusiasts know that we are about to turn a whole pride of Cheetahs loose! Hope to see you all there!
To assist us with the logistics for the occasion, please RSVP asap to Ray Cornelissen by email: sales@aerotrike.co.za
If you have any queries or require more information about general flight rules and joining procedures, etc., please contact us @ 011 817 2298.

I looked seriously at the Cheetah in kit form. The quality of the kit is good and what what Ive seen its a nice aerie. RV is right it depends on budget - the Titan is a cool looking aerie and fast but you are not going to go anywhere with luggage and need to be a short ouk to fit in. Savannah is a great aerie and flies fantastically - great choice !! John is also very helpful. There is an aerie called a Skyranger that Clint Phillips supplies from East London - easy to build and flies fantastically. You can also fly with a Jab to save costs. The RANS S6S Coyote (Im Biased) is a great aerie -cruises at 120mph and is easy to build , check out their website www.rans.com I found the factory very helpful when ordering my parts.
For less money - the Challenger is a fantastic aerie (3000 flying) - easy to build and fly and wont break the bank. Definitely worth looking at

I love that !!! I keep taking fuel out to the airfield and never get to put it in because the aerie is so light on fuel. What are you flying now Agent??The Agent wrote:Me pesonally prefer the Bantam as I owned one for a few years and thats what realy taught me to fly again and have fun and see the country at the smell of an oil rag.

I would get a Carl Babst Raven, either in kit form or complete, depending on budget. Stick a Great Plains engine in it or if budget not a problem a nice 912 or 912S...which the latter can of course also be used in a RV12 later on, but this is another story...

Re: Advise on buying a fixed wing
Everytime I look at that raven I keep thinking to myself that somebody stuck the wrong rudder on it. The vertical tail looks too small for the rest of the airplane - and that wing - eish what can I say? Does it really need to be THAT thick...
Nuts about Cheetahs. Petit is the place.
