Re: Cubby Owners
That definitely looks suspect. Please remember though that a miss is usually associated with a problem in the high voltage side of the ignition system and what you are showing me is the low voltage side. I sincerely hope that is the problem and no more hassels. Please report back

Re: Cubby Owners
Mike,
Did you manage to resolve your missfire yet?

Re: Cubby Owners
A week or two ago i got in touch with one of the guys from McDonalds Engineering, which was providing the VW engines for the cubby at one time. In the process i told them i would like to get some drawings and engine data which might assist in maintenance in the future. The operators manual i got from the previous owner says that i have got 2.1VW engine in my cubby. On speaking to one of the guys at the factory i was told that there is no 2.1 VW that is air cooled. All the versions of 2.1 VW are water cooled. Hence i found out that the engine was possibly a 1600 VW that was converted to 2.0 litre capacity which is air cooled.
The manual also states that the recommended oil to use is a SAE 30. Can somebody confirm what oil they are using. My cubby is only 65 hrs (3 years old) so there should not be anything wrong with "wear and tear" just yet.
If anyone has any documentation on the engine or any other usefull info it would be much appreciated.

Re: Cubby Owners
thought it was sorted after test flight but this weekend got some "misses" again - landed and checked everything - ensured that the leads were all in the coil/distributor etc properly and cleaned off a "dirty" terminal on the one injector and the took it for a 1/2 hr test flight and everything seems fineclive layland wrote:Mike,

Re: Cubby Owners
Do a compression test.Know of a few cubbys with overheating problems ie loss in comp and performance-sometimes missfire
Re: Cubby Owners
Remove the injetors and get them tested at Diesel Electric , or a place that specialises in feul injection systems.
Also try phoning Kobus at "oh ate two 872 7610,' he build the Cubby's before selling the factory to the current owners.
Hope this is of some help.
Kind regards,
Gunter Rostek.

Re: Cubby Owners
Does your Cubby miss in the climb or the cruise?
If it's good in the climb but misses in the cruise, check the reading on the rev counter when the miss manifests itself and after you have landed, plug in your laptop and check the value that the REV LIMITER is set at. I don't know what rev counter you have fitted but if it's the one fitted by cubby wings, then it's only accurate to the nearest 200 rpm. If the setting on your rev limiter is close to the reading on the rev counter, then move the limiter setting up 200 rpm and fly again and see if there is any improvement. The engine may have loosened up a bit in 65 hours and might be giving you a few extra rpm, just enough to hit the limiter.
When the engine hits the limiter, it give a symptom exactly the same as a miss
Hope this helps

Re: Cubby Owners
hello fellow cubby owners
I have joined the forum. I am an active member on avcom, same username. I am almost finished with my CPL , but most importantly I have joined the ranks of being a cubby owner.
my partner and I have bought RV4ker's cubby, ZU CYB. This little aerie grows on me more and more each day. We are waiting for a new prop which should be anyday now, and then we can start the convex onto her, so in the mean time I go past the hangar every day to look at her. Yesterday I gave her a 2 hour clean. She is now shining.
I must admit that I far prefer the relaxed atmosphere here on microlighters than on avcom. Anyways as soon as we are up and flying , would be nice to organize a cubby fly in sometime this year.
Cheers
Giarc

Re: Cubby Owners
Great to hear you bought a Cubby Giarc.
I am in total agreement, lets see if we can muster a fly-inn.
Where you fly out of?
Just to let you guys know I have received my 2 books from the States on rebuilding your Volla engines. Really good reading material.
PM me if you want more details.
