The MISASA Magazine returns

Postby alanmack » Sat Oct 11, 2008 7:11 pm

How much $$$$$$ or what prizes (trip to Oshkosh? etc) would attract great articles for the return of the MISASA Magazine "Microflight Africa" in 2009?

See http://www.misasa.co.za for the background and the rest of the detail.

What items should MISASA give to members free of charge?

What items should MISASA carry for sale to MISASA members at cost that could be bought by MISASA at significantly lower prices if the items were bought by MISASA as a bulk order? Items such as Flight Jackets etc could be bought at half price, 3rd party insurance etc

Your views would be greatly appreciated.

Alan, well done on your contribution at the MISASA meeting. I, for one, am pleased to hear that the magazine has been proposed for a new term. I honestly believe the magazine alone could be a major contributor to sustaining, and growing the MISASA membership.
SUPPORT FROM KZN GUARANTEED.
We have a most eloquent scribe and probably the top LSA cameraman in Steven Mc Currach. We have, (together with the Eastern Cape) arguably, the best flying province to article and photograph, with miles and miles of beaches, valleys and mountains to entice the most enthusiastic fliers. Flyaways are frequent, with “breakfast runs” a regular item on the weekend agenda

As to your questions, some PROPOSALS:

Next years membership could include one of the following:
CAA approved first aid kit
Folder with aircraft “contents” as required by CAA
Approved Fire extinguisher
Tie down kit, (pegs, ropes, chocks etc).

Bulk Buy Benefits could include:
All of the above
MISASA Jackets
Aircraft covers

If the committee would please commit to growth of the MISASA brand, with the view to using the funds to benefit of all it’s members. Therein lies its success.

Thank you for your input.

How can you help?

Firstly, I have in mind re the magazine to issue 4 editions as follows:
1. 10 February 2009
2. 10 May 2009
3. 10 August 2009
4. 10 November 2009

40 pages with 4 pages of cover. If we get more content - it gets bigger. I hope to have a panel of people who gather stories from the regions and to offer significant prizes for stories sent in at the end of the year as well as for photos sent in. Best story and best picture award for each issue and big prizes to the best for the year.

Does anyone want to join the Magazine panel by becoming a regional representative?

Why 10 Feb? Because the magazine goes to paid up membership on 1 Feb only > so members have January to pay we check numbers on 1 Feb and print that number.

What should you get with the mag?

I suggest > 2x badges plus one cap and a renewal sticker

Not sure if this works to add a picture - if not please post me the how to!

Two badges - one for your flight suit and one for?
Why a cap? > one size fits all and we need to let people know that MISASA is not only a trike association. What does MISASA stand for? It is The Microlight and Light Sport Aeroplane Association of South Africa. Did you get this right? So, the cap should have the badge and the name on it.

Then I plan to offer to launch a MISASA online store with a members username and password offered in the magazine so only members can go online and see what is available. What should be available? Send us your ideas by posting to this thread. egs could be the following items sold at cost
1. First Aid kit?
2. Fuel funnel that removes water from fuel?
3. Printed copy of the FAA trike manual - see www.faa.gov.org?
4. Wing covers 3 Axis and trikes?
5. Location device - remember the Where's Wally thread?
6. A range of clothing eg Flight jackets?
etc
Please offer suggestions.

Thanks Rudi. The sticker is a peel and stick number that you can stick to your plane. The CAA like the idea very much so that passengers can see the status of the plane that they are about to go for a flight in. The sticker is being donated by Henk Badenhorst of of Sign by Sign in Centurion. Henk's number is 082 442 8895.

The idea is that you take a black felt tip pen and you colour in the 88/88/88 so as to leave the white bits to read the correct dates as a notice to passengers and as a reminder to you. Henk gave them out to all on the Wild Coast fly-away earlier this year and all thought that they were a fantastic idea.

Does someone in the Western Cape want to help give us some stories and or a perspective from the region? PLEASE! See also the thread on the Commercial Mag? The weather in the Western Cape must still be good. They have not volunteered yet. I was there for a day last week - wow, what a day. I prefer it when they shoot at you or the wind blows or the rain goes sideways - it's easier to leave!

Gents.
Thanks for the update on the MAG.
If you are willing to donate stickers for the west coast chaps I commute weekly between JHB and CT and will gladly hand them out down there.
Graham.
