Rigging - AP supervision ????

Postby Thatchman » Tue Sep 30, 2008 4:46 pm

Just an observation as there was a lot of de-rigging at Numbi for the way home.

What is the legal status here :?: Are we as Piloots of a NTCA allowed to derig and rig :?:

If the answer is yes then its a bit of a joke that you cannot change a spark plug but you can take the wing off and put it back together again :!: :!:

If the answer is no, then its a problem if you want to travel on a trailer as you would need to find an AP to check the rigging :!: :!:

Brilliant comment !

A hang glider pilot riggs and de-riggs with every flight. Yet, an AP only inspects once a year whether everything is in place  .

It reverts to the old call for self regulation in the sport.

As for Millers ... NEVER, EVER let anyone, sober or not, assist with de-rigging or rigging. It is your own wing you will have to fly next time, not the Miller guy's wing.

I've had to chase away hundreds of "prospective" BEE and Millers hang-glider and trike de-riggers in my life ! Most of them left offended for "only offering help".

Their willingness to help is highly appreciated, but their over-eagerness to help pulling battens out in the wrong way is not appreciated.

Thanks but, no thanks. vhpy

From what i Understand.

The people putting in the Regulations still do not fully grasp the chunk of whatever they have bitten off. (**)
None of them Own a trike or am i mistaken :?:
They do not grasp just what can go wrong with rigging and De-rigging the wings. Go Figure
