Re: Some cheetah training time under the belt.
I have just fitted new engine mounting rubbers, going to do the carbs over, replace deteriorated wiring, fit a VSI
When completed, I intend flying the Cheetah up to Rainbow as it 1035hours on frame. They have to go through the whole aeroplane (cables, nuts & bolts) so that it can have a clean bill of health for the next 1000 hours!
Will let you know ....

Yes, was used in Kimberley Flying School.... Many a student trained in her! Did most of my PPL in her as well as another Cheetah ZU-DPZ
I have done some 150hrs in her since being bought.
She has never let me down and I don't intend letting her down either....

Re: Some cheetah training time under the belt.
Oh did another 1.3 this morning = 20. 'SOLO' ain't going to happen in the real sense here as the school plane has not got insurance if flown without instructor in it. Have basically already flown a circuit without assitance at it were but Will let you guys know when they become a regular thing
This morning's first circuit was basically one as well but then after that some of the landing flares need 'some' assitance again. Just struggling with getting them consistent now. Was one of the very first mornings that we didn't have some serious crosswind so was actually very relaxing.

+ 1.6 = 21.6. Absolutely nailed a couple of landings this morning and still absolutely screwed a couple of them. Just got to get it consistent now. Tomorrow morning consolidate everything up to now - next week starting X-countries
Very much more comfortable and relaxed in the plane now. Positively flying it now but sometimes becoming a 'passenger' on the last few feet above the runway and from there the messed up landings. WILL sort that out asap. Weather has been kind the last few mornings but still x-wind and sometimes changing from 21 to 03 while we are in the circuit so we just swop the circuit around a couple of times during a session. The most perfect landing this morning I almost forgot all my downwind checks(was chatting) - did them late - got the flaps on just before crossing the threshold and that one was the best of the lot. Strange.

Re: Some cheetah training time under the belt.
Oops missed out a 1.2 somewhere but 1.3 again this morning bringing total to 25.8.
X-coutry nav ex this morning. Was fun - got that spot on right - no issues in that department. Doing another on friday - Pinedene corridor, brits, Rust de-winter dam - back to Petit.
Don't know how I'm going to make it to friday without flying.....

When will you have your wing? How many hours you have to do.
Why a cheetah and not a Whisper motorglider or a second hand JK must be in the same price range?

Re: Some cheetah training time under the belt.
Minimum of 40 hours but likely to be a little more. Also not going to stop then and go straight onto instructor, night, IF etc.
The fact that I can buy a kit - build it and then look for an engine means that I can split the expense. Sure if I can find a JK05 in the vicinity of R250k i'll seriously make a plan to buy it. Same goes for something like a savannah.
But I REALLY like the cabin layout and space on a cheetah - by far the most comfortable to get in and out of.

Are there any special rules about night flying and eyesite?
