AP course?

Postby Marc G » Wed Sep 03, 2008 11:25 am

Does anyone know how to get an AP licence or where to do an AP course?

There are at least four of us who want to do our ratings.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Speak to the aeroclub or Misasa. They issue the ratings

As Morph said, run by the Aero Club.
There is no AP course as such.
If your experience level is enough (built your own aerie, AME experience, etc) you can apply and write the exams.
Subjects are :
Civil Aviation Regulations (CAR) and AecSA-AP Scheme Manual of Procedure
Airframes general which can include Conventioanl 3-axis control, Gyrocopters,
Weightshift/ Flexwing aircraft.
Piston engines general,
Turbine engines general
Examinations on types can include
All metal construction
Wood and fabric
Composites
Rotorcraft types
Weightshift/ Flexwing types
Electrical
Radios
Instruments
Contact person is Johan Lok 082 4six137three4
Not difficult to get an AP license if you are experienced. Very difficult if you are not.

Is there any study material or past examination papers for the AP exams? Anybody written them?

No past exam papers around.
This taken from the Aeroclub MOP:

4.5.1.1 An applicant for the issuing of an Approved Person Certificate
with a inspection rating in the airframe, engine or equipment class shall
either
a) be the primary builder of, and have obtained an
Authority to Fly for his or her aircraft, or failing that,
b) have obtained proven aircraft maintenance experience
for at least 12 months, compatible with the rating her
or she is applying for.

If you are a member of the Aeroclub and have this stuff behind you, your best bet if you want to do it is phone Johan Lok.
He be very busy so please don't phone if you are not eligeable.
He will tell you to study the Aeroclub MOP, the AC43, SA-CATS-NTCA, parts 24,66,94 and 96 for the basic license then set exams for the types you want on it.
