Hire&fly options?

Hi Guys. I'm new here - been watching for a while but not posting. I'm at the point of committing to do an MPl with Andy Kasperson at microlight adventures - going to tri-axis on the cheetah, but I'm just wondering about a couple of things. There are a great many hire&fly options when you have PPL but that seems very limited to almost non existent for MPL?. Do you guys know anybody that hire & fly planes in tri-axis in the mpl category - like cheetah/small jabiru etc. It's no use I have a license but can't hire anything to fly as there is currently no way I can afford to buy my own plane. That will have to wait a couple of years. Otherwise I simply have to bite the bullet and go PPl so at least I can get to hire something.

Hi Stephan I am in the same boat just on the Trike side, Good luck. I am just considering packing it in as I don't feel comfortable not flying regularly. Will reconsider again maybe when I have the cash to buy.

no Andy recons the insurance is simply too hight to make it worth his while for hire and fly. They are based at Petit. I know the whole flying industry takes a knock when the economy goes downward as it does now but somehow planes just don't become that much cheaper. Currently I can't afford to dish out half a million for a plane either and anything I am really interested in is in that vicinity. You can buy cheap trikes but I really don't like the whole trike flying experience. I owned half a share in one but at that point just couldn't afford the flying lessons(stupid in hind sight now). But my buddy used to fly us and it really isn't what I want. You can't go places in them for say a weekend to the bushveld where a decent tri-axis can do that these days.

Ok so nobody know of any hire&fly options in MPL classed tri-axis. Makes having a license for one a bit redundant then. Damn.

Do not give up dude. Why not consider flying trikes?! YOu wil not be dissapointed

Still means I have to buy one. Will rather take longer to buy a tri-axis than having to buy a trike and then later a tri-axis. Have flown trikes before, don't like it. You have to suit up - freeze your nuts off in winter, eat the occasional bug and go nowhere slowly. I want to fly to be able to get somewhere, not puddle jump or potter around the dam

Find out when your nearest airfield is having a social and invite yourself. Once you've met the okes, I guarentee you half of them are tinkerers- builders - collectors/ quickly down a beer so they don't get asked why they never fly/not current with medical- paper work/ bulsh$tters who don't wonna fly or on such a budget from mommie that they only fly out a drum of fuel per year.

Then have a really important official looking notice with the local council's insignia on stating that any hangars not occupied by currently flying legal planes will be auctioned to the highest bidder.

Then check all the crap /broken cars/ grannies furniture being carted out the next weekend.

Then drop a comment that you're ready to partner the right guy and you'll be flying within 3 months.

Tend to agree with you - Not that many hire and fly options - Now if you had PPL you can hire and fly Tecnam Highwing 912 at Aviators Paradise for +-R650 per hour wet (last I heard)- Not bad

I have flown Cheetah and Tecnam - Mmm - Not much of a comparison.

Andy Kasparson the best instructor you will find though - Tel him "Dik seuntjie" says howzit
