Thanks very much guys. We don't want to prescribe to you guys how much to pay, we would rather leave it as a voluntary thing. I personally have set up a monthly contribution as part of my end of month banking run.

What is the bandwith used and how much serverspace does it use?

demon wrote:The cost is about R2000.00 per month now  :!:
But were each member to chip in R15.00 per year (1.5 litres of fuel!!) we would cover this easily.
All contributions will go to these costs, and will be greatly appreciated.
Details to follow, thanks guys !!!! =D*

Hy everyone

I will do an electronic transfer, just want to confirm the banking details:

ACCOUNT NAME MICROLIGHTERS FORUM
BANK ABSA
ACCOUNT NO 9203583195
BRANCH 632005

Was there a final decision taken yet on what the subscription should be, the R15 still seem to be joke, this forum offer much more value to subscribers than that?

The November cheque was R1422.66
October cheque was just under R1800.
Costs are currently at approximately R5000 per month.

Hosting pricing in SA still makes no sense to me. Clearly the price is driven by the cost of broadband links, and with current cost structures makes it more affordable to host off shore which then in turn places more demand on the expensive international links. Go figure? Surely it is cheaper to carry that traffic on the local links only?

Maybe Neotel's aggressive entry as a data carrier will start to change this model?

SA ISPs don't differentiate between local and international bandwidth. Just total bandwidth in and out - why - I don't know - alas.
