Rails to push trike sideways into hanger

Postby Cacofonix » Fri Jul 18, 2008 7:17 am

:? Guys please help. My friend has build a hanger but the trike needs to be put on a rail and then pushed in side ways. Anyone with a plan :?:

Just a thought : Have a look how they installed a sliding gate (not the hanging one in garage door's)

They use 50 x 50 angle steel in the mortar or ground (part running on the ground) and sliding gate castors on the trolley (Gate), can not see why it cannot work - get decent castors - not small one's - break, wear to soon, stuck.

NB : attach or secure the 2 rails to each other so that the distance between them does not change (every 2-4m with a rod or flat steel)

Peter i had something like this manufactured for my hanger on the farm. It works great. Used 2 angle irons that were concreted into the floor with the V facing up. The angles are the rails and run from the inside of the hanger to about 4 meters on the outside of the hanger. Then i made a cart that runs along the angles. So i drive the trike onto the cart and then push it into the hanger side ways. Ill try make a sketch and post ltr.

I also used the same princ but on a very hot day they tend to move a little,so i took the wheels of and made them so they can move sideways on the axel and that 5mm side play on eatch wheel is there so the can stay on the tracks on a hot day. What also works well is when the wind picks up and you are allone you can drive the trike onto the trolley and with your one foot push it into the hanger and remain seated ,the best shape is a T shape trolley.

Check out the setup that vliegvark has on "aircraft for sale"

This looks like what you are looking for  I'm sure he could help you out with the plan.
