Got rid of the flu, and flew an hour this afternoon.

On ZS-WUO I have EGT and CHT gauges. Because the CHT gauge get damaged when it is installed between under the sparkplug, the gauges (when I got the trike) were measuring the temperature on the engin block. Since I wondered whether this would give any warning, I placed on gauge correctly under the plug, and the other on the engin block. The following picture gives the difference - CHT (correct) reads 159 and the (block) reads 46. The difference of about 110Celcius remains almost constant with climbing, and straight and level. So the question is, can one trust the cilinder head temperature to go up in time to warn about impending disaster?

Got DVE back after my "precautionary" landing a month ago.

Now torn between watching the snow on the mountains, and the temp readings on my dash!

I got DVE back, and since the wing was rerigged, I took off from FASD with a bit of low flying, but since there was quite a crosswind, I thought nothing of the trike weathercocking to the right, and needing some extreme input to keep the left wing down. When I subsequently took off from Aurora, with almost no wind, the same happened - after takeoff, I am looking past the nose of my trike at the runway. I cannot figure out what is wrong, and will get Johan to have a look this weekend. No twiddling of the leading edge or profile tubes helped.

Gert, check the tensions on the wire cables that run from each rear wheel to the main upright post of the airframe (they attach just behind the seats to the main upright post). They go slack when the post is moved foward (ie motor tilted foward) to remove the wing and retension again when the post is raised back to the upright position and the profile tube replaced- i have had an occasion where they didnt tension equally which resulted in constant crabbing while flying (unequal cable tension was pulling the upright cart post to one side- almost undetectable to the eye). Just a suggestion

Supposed to be windy today in Cape Town, but was great for flying (with WUO)

Before my flight, I did some maintenance and moved the other EGT probe to it's proper position too. My CHTtemps now are 142 and 156 and my EGT 573 and 602 on straight and level. Is this OK?

What is the implication of temps differing more than 25 Celcius (which happens sometimes)?

Beware, cropsprayers have started working in the Western Cape and will be quite active in the following 4 weeks.
