Need to cover a hole in my pod

Postby extra300s » Wed Jun 25, 2008 12:42 pm

Hi there

I need a piece of carbon fibre or some sort of plastic/fibreglass material to use as a cover over the holes in my pod. There are three analogue gauges installed that I want to take out as there is a Skydat GX2 installed.

Any idees for me?

Thanks
Karl

The correct way in my opinion:-
Take pod off trike and remove all instruments after taking a photo of all the connections
Make a plywood plug the same size as the hole
Epoxy plug into pod using filler where needed
Paint on a couple of layers of resin
Sand with waterpaper until you are happy
Respray to original colour
Look at photo to reconnect instruments
Put back onto trike

Or speak to Francois at Wintervogel, he just had a pod refurbished by some motorcycle shop in town. This pod was ready to be thrown away, cracked, full of holes and cut through diagonally. If you see this pod now it is better than new, not a mark or dent or anything, better than brand new, I couldn't believe that it is the same pod. All the cracks and holes missing, resprayed to a mirror gloss finish and topped with black dashboard coating where the instruments are mounted. The cost was aprox R400.

take the old one out, bring it to Morning Star. We work out a new layout, Ranger cut's it for you and viola, a whole new look. Or we can just cut a blank for you complete with holes, same colour as your dash and put it in. You might want to install a new gauge there at some stage

Have a look at this
This is what I did with my plane as it did not have a compass and the asi was in the place of the compass
It was done with 0.8mm carbon fibre

That sounds great Morph. Allso still need to mount intercom underneath pod so I will take it off yes. Sorry I missed the meeting last night but oom Andries got tied up in traffic before he opened the hanger for me. And then we had a long chat.
