Waiting for the f%ing fog to lift this morning. Then a 45 minute flip with Wargames in AVL before playing around over the clouds to the west of Morningstar. See log on http://www.zu-dve.com
And congratulations to Francois. He said that he cannot remember falling asleep with his plakkies in bed. Then again, those who have seen him at Carnavon will know that those eyes get smaller and smaller up to the point where he needs a kick between the legs to make him see.

Kachered the wing and washed WUO before taking an afternoon flip. Temperature 26 on takeof - what a winter! Little wind, and a lovely flight.
See http://www.zu-dve.com for log.
As I flew over Klipheuwel I took a series of pictures, which I merged. I then compared it with the same area in Google Earth - the picture:

I thought it was good manners to dim your headlights when in traffic at night!

Do you know the time difference between the images? I see the the shacks in the right top corner of the photos is increasing in number.
I sometimes get confused............But i'm not sure

Not more shacks, just less trees (firewood)!!Ranger wrote:Do you know the time difference between the images? I see the the shacks in the right top corner of the photos is increasing in number.

Gert, EGT's are much more important. I used CHT's to tell me when I was hot enough to take off. EGT's tell me about the state of the fuel/air mix in flight and thus you can avoid high egt/lean mixtures on decents at certain rpm's etc.
I don't think your exhaust manifold has the mount points for the EGT probes. These are very easy to weld on, I did it for my 912. You need two nuts of the specific thread, weld them on, drill the hole, fit the probe. Very easy

Gert's manifold do have the mount points for the egt's. For 503 I think both is important. CHT is important for take off temps, and if a fan belt breaks, you will see this on cht and not on egt. EGT is for correct fuel/air mix as you said.
Is there any other place to but CHT probe besides under the spark plug??

Re: ZU-DVE (and ZS-WUO) Flight Log
Ag ja. Lets call it a precautionary landing. Less complicated. After I could not get going after the uhm precautionary landing, I knew better than to phone Francois Bob for his opinion on what has happened. So I phoned Jannie and Di in Springbok to hear what he thinks might be the problem. Piston or Ignition, doesn't matter, they are coming. Uhm, have you had one coffee too many Di? Springbok is 400+ km away! No, just a minute says the lady, I will get back to you in a minute. Jannie phones and says they are on their way, should be with me in 1:30. So I get the farmer, super friendly Mr Smit to ask his wife to phone my wife to get transport back to Aurora in the meantime. Marie gets someone in town to deliver the news, and report back that my lovely wife's reply was "Het hy geval of geland?". Of course the former means she can retire, while the latter means Johan Froneman can make something for his nest egg. So Jan Smit gives me a lift to Aurora, I rush over to Saldanha to get a trailor, and back to Aurora by which time Jannie and Di had landed with Di's Jabiru. Then back to Smithsvlei to be in Jannie's way to disassemble the wing, and back again to Aurora for a nice evening with Jannie, Di, Corni and my caring (first) wife. On Sunday Jannie and Di flew to Saldanha for Di to get her paperwork done for a conversion on the Jabiru, and I trailered DVE for Johan's attention. Di & Jannie flew all the way back via Kleinsee to Springbok on Sunday afternoon.

Re: ZU-DVE (and ZS-WUO) Flight Log
Since DVE is still with Johan after my precautionary landing 2 weeks ago, I could not make the Tanqua fly-in, and
decided to visit Johan @ the Saldanha fly-in. Dirk flew with, and after a bit of excitement at FASD we met up with Jannie and Di at Aurora, before flying back today.
Over the D200 today, the paradrop pilot asked me what my groundspeed was. Hahaha I laughed, you really want to know? Eigteen mph I replied. He sounded concerned about whether I would have enough fuel for the last 12 miles to Morningstar.
Dirk listened to Cape Town Info on 127.00 and we were advised that the wind was 19 knots varying to 37 knots. Ah well, with our Windlass's airspeed at 48 pushing 50mph we had a long and relatively smooth 2 hours and 15 minutes around noon.

Re: ZU-DVE (and ZS-WUO) Flight Log
Thanks to a lovely weekend with gert, di and jannie. The weather not always the best, but flying was great. Never thought I would see the day with only 10 miles to go to morningstar, and a ETA of 30 mins
.
Thanks you gert for your hospitality at Aurora, what a nice place.
Regards,

A lovely sunny day in Cape Town. Flying weather all day, and I sit with a cold. I had to amuse myself with this...
