Via the grapevine

Postby Leprachaun » Tue May 20, 2008 1:06 pm

Well folks , as most of you know by now the grapevine is a very powerful tool , sometimes it is used and othertimes abused , you decise .
Whilest assembling my new baby, ZU- EXC on Saturday many folks flew to Heidelberg in the good old gansters paradise.
The grapevine tell me that some folks " misbehaved", or should I say as told by the vine forgot about joining procedures, taxi procedures, landing procedures an all ????? ** ## ## ##
Whats happened to the officers and gentlemen amongst us ???? (!!) Have we forgotten the basic rules of the air or what , puff Im not bitching , just askin as the vine informs me that the microlighters made their "name gat" again this weekend and some of the powers to be feel that "the pest " (one quotation ) should be banned from the get to gethers as by the vine im told ???
Folks plan the trip , dont just arrive , cut in front of traffic on long finals and take off un announced- the ATC nearly had a fit according to the vine - some of you forgot your manners and make it difficult for the others -
I rest me case / should I say as per the vine -

Hi Alex,

And sometimes the grape vine talks K@K.

Lengthy discussion on Avcom - a reasonable and responsible approach was used by the microlighters in their replies - would appear that one person was on a mission to cause Bravo Sierra.

Mr. Leprechaun.
You surprise me!!! As a skilled investigator you are trained to be objective and only derive a conclusion after considering all the facts.
I am also skilled in this field. Read both the Avcom and Microlight versions.
My conclusion that the “mine is bigger than yours, i.e. egos” are at play here and that the ATC was in full command of the situation.
Fly safely.

I agree with you 100% Graham. I arrived there when some of the heavy metal joined and as far as I am aware everything was handled in accordance with the instructions of the ATC, who did an excellent job on the day. The widely discussed mass trike departure was also done under control of the ATC. It was my impression that the trikers and other microlighters went out of their way not to interfere with the other traffic.

Since reading the Avcom complaint I talked to some of the senior guys (24,000 hours + experience) who were there and asked them whether they had any complaints. One of them was in the circuit waiting to land when the trikes left, and he had no problem whatsoever with the way the trikers conducted themselves.

Go and read the thread on AVCOM...

The "Stirrer" added some wooden spoon stuff and COBRA cleared up the whole issue. It is now time for a certain gentleman that told us some time ago told us to shutup, stop moaning and replace our 582 cranks.... He does seem to have an issue with microlighters!

We call it in plain Afrikaans : "Hy Poep vir Punte" (^^)

Hi Alex,

Maybe it's the same grapevine that caused me some damage in the past. Stop listening to bullshit and check out the facts.

Why is it that if an individual or small group did infact breech procedures, (im not saying an unsavory incident did or didnt happen), the entire group is "penalized" ## ## ## ......... does that mean that if a blik pilot made an oopsie then ALL bliks would be stopped from future events........ or are we all, as a MPL group, really that bad as this is not the first time these generalized coments have been made... im getting gatvol of these generalized shotgun statements by who ever makes them   .

At most of the fly-inns and airshows, the MPL arrivals account for a large number of the events a/craft volumes and static displays and thus spectator value- perhaps its time to boycott a few shows and only attend MPL events , as a group, lock stock and barrel   ...... less spectator value for the organisers..... and then a few smug individual can pat themselves on the back

Alex

Chat to Sias about the real facts and withhold comments until you have heard both sides of the story. Seems like one guy just got peeved because he had to do another circuit or 2.

Hi Alex, I`m not sure what the cryptic post is all about  It seems it is not referring to the incident with the trikes holding at the intersection
The grapevine tell me that some folks " misbehaved", or should I say as told by the vine forgot about joining procedures, taxi procedures, landing procedures an all ?????
...dont just arrive , cut in front of traffic on long finals and take off un announced- the ATC nearly had a fit according to the vine - some of you forgot your manners and make it difficult for the others -..
again this weekend and some of the powers to be feel that "the pest " (one quotation ) should be banned from the get to gethers as by the vine im told

Some facts would be appreciated or maybe a call or PM to the culprit(s) will be more appropriate.

Now, I am from a trike background. I know that things take long in a trike and most PPL pilots dont regard microlighting the same as bliks but surely the same rules and airmanship need to be followed. I dont want to mention the registration as a fight is not what I am looking for but these guys need to follow the rules. A number of pilots on the ground commented about this same incedent yesterday. If the trike guys want to be treated like the rest they need to act like the rest. Having a chat this morning at our field, a number of people including the resident CAA inspector commented on the lack of airmanship and embarrasment caused by this incedent. Guys, you need to follow the rules. I know this is only a small minority of trikers but you are going to give everyone a bad name. chunky
Ok, So here we go with the Psychophantic Trike Cheerleading.... Not once did I say I wanted to start a fight. Nor did I say That I am a better pilot. Infact, I said I WAS a Trike Pilot. Instead of getting [MODERATED] all twisted up read the post. I did mention the fact that it was a minority who make the bad mistakes. I too have been held waiting for an IF pilot, had engine trouble, and and and. Perhaps the best way forward was straight from one of South Africas most highly respected display Pilots "THE ORGANISERS SHOULD KEEP THESE F'NG MICROLIGHTERS AWAY FROM THE AIRSHOWS' Do you think this is the answer. NO. Just educate them. chunky
Ok... now MC is pulled into the fray, didn't want to start a fight but the flame proof suit was put on, we all make mistakes not just the minority and would love to know who the respected display Pilot was saying THE ORGANISERS SHOULD KEEP THESE F'NG MICROLIGHTERS AWAY FROM THE AIRSHOWS!
