Re: Ideas needed to support Microlighters
Just an idea, what I/we did for Misasa site, is offer only 5 advertising positions to industry on auction, with minium bid, highest bidder gets 1st spot etc.
No flashing or rolling adds, just stationary and small, not to overwhelm the site, and not to look like a casino or carnaval.
The income generated this year with these 5 adds, covered ALL our website operating costs, no costs to members.
We called the 5 guys Supporters instead of advertisers, linking to their websites.
You can put them then next to or just below your front page logo.
Just my 2cents.
Regards
Rudi

I think it is only fair that we should make some contribution. We all benefit from the forum and valuble info gets exchanged.
Please work out something so that this forum can grow.

Re: Ideas needed to support Microlighters
Just post the banking details Morph, I am sure that all users will be glad to contribute..... Its a small fee to pay to be part of the best forum on the web
Lets start this ball rolling....... I will gladly deposit R 50.00 into the bank account and challenge all members to do the same. The moderators need to post whether we have sufficient funds or not after the first round of deposits. ( If not, then we go again )

Re: Ideas needed to support Microlighters
Is there maybe as estimate as to how much is needed to maintain the site every month.
2nd. Is there anyway you can maybe give an estimate to the amount of active users.
Then maybe we can devide the maintenance between all to relieve the presure of the guys that would normally give all.
This should be a team performance, or none at all.

Thanks Demon.demon wrote:estimated cost now is R2000.00 per month.
Thanks for all the support, we will get our act together and set up a system of anonymous financial support.
Now, I''m guessing now, but let say we are about 200 active users, surely each can deposit R10 per month. Even I can afford this.
Isn't this better than 20 guys each giving R100 per month??
Demon, you just say how we should do, and I'm in.

Re: Ideas needed to support Microlighters
Thanks guys, I just need to get a cheap bank account set up. I'll talk to ABSA on Monday. I was thinking along the lines of a savings account. Not sure what the Feca requirements will be w.r.t. responsibility for the account. Does anybody else have some idea about setting up an account for an association/forum?

R24k per annum.
I count 100 users with more than 100 posts so assume that is the active pool that could be relied on. If 50% of those donate, would require at least a R500 donation per annum. It begs the question if that is sustainable.
As one that always looks at cost control, is the increase in performance gained by having it onshore really worth the additional cost? Is it worth the additional R22k's worth?
Ok - flame suit on - hat coat & door.

Re: Ideas needed to support Microlighters
Since April 1st, the following was advertised and reported as ***SOLD*** on this forum
Aviate Aspect (R39000)
Aquilla (R70000)
Aquilla (R90000)
Bushbaby (R190000)
Aerotrike (R49000)
Windlass (R65000)
Garmin (R3500)
Pilot III (R1200)
That is a total of R507700 generated by advertising on this forum. Lets' presume there was some heavy bargaining going on, and the items sold for an actual 60% of this, ie R304620. If the sellers of items on microlighters.co.za commit themselves to contribute 1% of what they get for items sold on this forum the forum would have made R3046.00 - estimate conservative.

Re: Ideas needed to support Microlighters
I really don't mind contributing (
just don't lock the threads I talk nonsense in!)
I made a suggestion sometime ago about Aliwal North being a Central location for a national fly-in. I think in the day and age of handouts we don't want to be branded as a bunch such the masses demanding YOU HAVE TO GIVE US A HOUSE! The funds generated can drive / fund this site and things like contributions to aviators that have passed on as a result of downed wings etc.
Google drives it's massive system by having a subtle advert column on the side - I don't see any harm in that - I just detest pop ups shouting in your face.
Maybe we should get rid of all the inactive posters and get a real picture of those using this site.....

The account will be up in another day or so, it takes a but of logistics to get the admins together, especially since one is in CT, one works in PTA and the other two are in JHB
