Hi,

Conversion on sEXY done & dusted. vhpy

Some of sEXY’s amazing performances (for me anyway) –

o no goggles – just headset over glasses which don’t move at all.
o 95 mph level flight yet able to fly on Buddy’s wing at 53 mph.
o in-flight ease of use of cruise throttle together with speed-trim settings.
o low approach speed on finals – 60 mph dual.
o low air speed recovery (at safe height) – sEXY slows down to 40 mph and then gently dips her nose 5° - power to recover to cruise speed effortless.
o efficient brakes.
o low fuel consumption (fitting Optifuel next week - will confirm).

Right – now to consolidate on sEXY for a few hours and then gradually start spreading those wings. !!!!

Regards
John

Congrats sEXY Young John on the conversion. I am sure it was a formality as it is such an easy and forgiving plane to fly.

Love to know how you find it to fly. No specs just seat of the pants comment.

Btw. Second plane behind Demon on his left in the Henley fly over, was non other the ZU-sEXY, being escourted out of Gauteng on its delivery flight.

Fly safe.

Being a cautious comparatively low-hour pilot with a single rating, I have admonished myself for letting the uninformed talk “dragons into my head”, for example –

o “Careful of the in-flight speed trim – you will surely porpoise all over the sky”.
o “Opposite prop torque”.
o “Those brakes are dangerous”.
o “Small wing – must approach very fast – don’t want to stall”.
o “Etc”.

Bollocks to the above!

My “seat of the pants” comments would be that a GT450 is a lovely or “sweet” trike to fly. My A-Grade ‘destructor’ refers to sEXY as a “real honey of a trike”.

The wing is a treat and very docile – pilot inputs are substantially less than on any other trike that I have flown.

The wing also has a nice “road holding” feel in the air through all speed ranges (including glide during a simulated emergency). !!!!

Being out of the wind (even my shoulders) is very nice. Not having to wear goggles although I bought new ones is lekker in terms of increased peripheral vision. The ease of operation regarding the in-flight speed trim, cruise throttle etc. with the static pitot keeping the instruments steady in turbulence is very pleasant. !!!!

However, just like all aircraft, the GT450 demands huge respect.
