When things aren't meant to work out

Postby Nkwazi » Fri Apr 25, 2008 10:17 pm

About 2 months ago we planned a trip for this weekend to Pyramid in Barberton. Original numbers were 7 - 8 aircraft. Slowly and one by one they started falling away until eventually on Wednesday it was only Theunis and myself left. We made the call that since neither him nor I had any experience with crossing the escarpment we would also abandon the mission. What now?? Leave taken, aeries serviced and ready with spares, etc and nowhere to go. Stuff it - we're still going to make a weekend of it. So Basie and Linda at Aeroden to the rescue. Theunis and I took off at 6.20 from Petit and had a very pleasant flight to Aeroden, offloaded extra weight on our trikes and enjoyed a short flight to Brits airfield to have a look at those beautiful Sambas. Followed the Crocodile river for a while and landed back at Aeroden. Missed call on cellphone from my Mom. Returned the call to find out that Liz (my precious soul mate) had fallen off her horse and injured her back. No probs I thought - I'll take off again in the afternoon and return to Petit. Next phonecall I get is that she has no movement or feeling in her legs and the ambulance has decided that they cant risk the road trip so have called for a medevac in a chopper. Panic, panic. Abandoned plan to fly back to Petit and my Dad came and picked me up from Aeroden. Long story short - just got back from hospital, thank God she has got feeling and movement back in her legs and MRI shows no damage to spinal coloumn. Poor Theunis now has to explore the area on his ace.

Just shows you how everything happens for a reason - imagine we were in Barberton - big mission. I'll just wait and see what happens tommorrow - will probably go and fetch my trike on Sunday. Thanks to Basie and Linda for hospitality and allowing me to keep my trike in their hangar.

Hi Bret,

Glad to hear your wife is fine. Sitting in Bakgatla, Pilanesberg and passing by the peaceful night. We must fly somewhere Sunday in a weeks time, ATF is sorted.

Chat to you in the week.

Regards

Thanks guys, drove back out to Aeroden on Saturday afternoon and flew my trike back on Sunday morning. Liz was discharged Sunday lunchtime so was back in time. She's still in a lot of pain - should recover soon enough though. She walked up to the stables this afternoon to "go and make up with her horse" :?: :?: , I still battle to understand these horsey people!!

So true, but then again after a little incident don't you also walk up to your trike and give it a hug, and tell it you forgive it, or is this just me
