SOLAR POWER
SOLAR POWER
I bought a cheap 10W solar panel, hooked it to one of my old 7Ah trike batteries, disconnected the downlighters in my passage and connected the battery to the circuit. I replaced the globes with four LED globes. Now I have emergency lighting for the Power Sharing thing. The globes in the passage give enough light throughout the house so we dont run into stuff when we walk around. The cost of all this amounts to about R 450.00 not including the used trike battery. 'N BOER MAAK 'N PLAN

For what it's worth........BOER wrote:I had one globe on for four days and the battery went down to 11V so I assume four globes will take at least 24Hrs to run the battery down. The battery also is not 100% as it ran down when it was in my trike. A new battery should last longer.

A battery going down to about 11.7, 11.6V is already considered "flat" even though it may still be able to deliver quite a bit of current but the voltage will go down fast after that.
Run the battery down to 11.6v often and she ain't gonna last very long

A fully charged 12-volt lead-acid battery has a voltage of 12.6...12.8 V at 20 °C. The exact terminal value will depend on the individual construction, in particular the alloy of the electrodes - Pb, Sb, Sn, Ca - and the concentration of the acid used. The voltage for sealed lead-acid batteries - SLA - is usually at the upper end of this range.
Airspeed, altitude, or brains....you always need at least two
Dankie Duckie

Re: SOLAR POWER
Hi Boer,
I have been looking for low voltage LED's, the type weth the two small push in pins at the back.
I found hi voltage led's and CFL's but not LV.
Where did you get yours.
