Centrifugal force in pure Physics does not exist, however this does not apply to Taxi drivers..
Can't publish the South African Rand prices on the web - tends to upset our international customers as they can't understand implications of shipping costs, duties and taxes (and in some contries cost of bribes to customs).Rudix wrote:Great new instruments, well done !

Prices are quite similar to current Smart Single range, prices are slightly up from 0-20% depending on model. Increased costs go mainly towards new switched mod power supplies (lower power consumption and greater voltage range) and the new rotary control. All electronics has been redesigned and improved with newer components or better circuitry where possible.
Give us or any of our distributors or OEMs a call if you need to know a price. You know us - we don't do bad pricing, we really do believe in "value for money". All our products are directly priced based on cost of manufacture. Cost of design, tooling and software is free. That's it. Very simple and always very fair.

In the meantime I'm flying an earlier version in my Jora to gather some experience with it. Intercom works real nice - I like it very much. Nice quality audio on RX and TX. Need to work on the clipper on TX to make it a bit softer (all done in software) to prevent side band issues.
Will probably drop the TX power spec from 6W to 5W or 5.5W, difficult to get 6W across the band in a consistent manner when operating from 12V but have not given up on the 6W yet. Anyway, due to good modulation that's plenty anyway.

Is the 5W PEP or carrier ?
6W should not be a problem but I suppose it does depend on the finals you are using. I regularly run 100W PEP on 12V and up to 50W carrier but even 100W carrier can be done.

Try your 100W at 130 Mhz from 12V with the exiter 2cm away from the final with a class D modulator. No shielding or metal work allowed. Cost must be reasonable. Zero adjustment points (no adjustable caps or inductors or anything else). You have 4-5 square cm of space available to fit exiter, driver stage(s), final and output filter/impedance converter plus rx/tx switch. Radio must be "fit and forget" production to keep costs to a minimum.
Output spectral purity must meet European specs.
Let me know when you are done because I'm going to buy you a medal. A big one.

I have not checked the actual dimensions but if you look at some of the commercial equipment by Yeasu/Icom/Kenwood in the amateur radio market it must be close to that ! You must see how small the RF PCB's are on these units (With a huge heatsink !!)
Some of these radios are the size of a normal car radio, runs from 1.8 - 470 MHZ all modes, there is even a 200W SSB/50W FM/AM version from Kenwood. All these radios are to the stringent European standards but I suppose they are slightly larger than what you want. You have to remember that these radios include a lot of other features like band scope, scanning, DSP and cross-band repeater wasting a lot of space.
Some of the handheld radios by these guys run 7-8W AM/FM from less than 12V and fit in the palm of you hand and include most of the features of the mobile units. These units, like all the modern kit, is all surface mount with no adjustable caps/inductors.
But I am no expert, just wondering
