Is this the end of microlighting in S.A. ?

Mike

Are there 2 oil coolers or just one?

Seems to be fitted on the right hand side and then on the left....

At first I fitted one but under hard climbing with a pax and full tank, the oil
temp used to climb up to 120 deg. Now it runs on two oil coolers and it runs perfect, also remember, unlike the Rotax 912 this engine has got a oil thermostat so that it never runs too cold.

Now, have suppliers deliberately stuck to an older version of the manual in order to move more cranks :?
Unfortunately there is a reference in the 99 manual and I believe this may be the bit causing the confusion and that there are some differeing interpretations of this instruction. Quite honestly I do not know how to interepret it, but if the local agent has diligently provided us with the information, then who are we, other APs, or CAA to question them?

IMHO it says - Inspect outer oil seals Replace (oil seals- Morph) as neccessary according to the latest revision of the relevant repair manual 462-532-582

Next line and unrelated to the above line

Check crankshaft for concentricity on the PTO side ..................

I agree with morph. It does not state that you have to replace crank. Mike Blyth said on misasa website, that 503 does not need crank change, but not so with the 582. That line that talks about oil seals clearly talk about all engines, so that would not be talking about the crank. Keep searching guys, we need to find that piece of paper!!

Now, I think that its is time for the 1 question we all need an answer for:

Why don't rotax show us that piece of paper that states that the crank needs replacement, so that we can show it to CAA? Surely they have it.

That is all for now. Nice day.

All is not lost -----
light at the end of the tunnel ---
I have just returned from CAA for a registration and ATF on ahigh hour 503
The engine was opened and inspected by a AP , not me , log book entered as per recogmendations and no crank replacement and i was outa there (ATF division ) in 22 minutes to be exact.
The Attitude change was unreal as was their reasoning ,
that s on a 503 , we are still working on the 582 , but Im sure sanity will prevail .

I thought that I would like to test the system as I specifically did not do the AP as their may be some BIAS?/Leniency as I am a MISASA committee member , but it went well and somewhere someone got the message through at last Leprachaun

I discussed our crank problem with a friend in Oz. There they have a couple of trained guys, traveling around with their mobile workshops. he visits when needed, whips the cranc out, X-Ray, measure out, and if given clean bill of health, put it back in, and you can fly legit. If out of measure, he has new cranks with him to replace worn ones. AND it cost 1/3rd the price it costs here. What went wrong??

Simple My Dear Sherlock.

A training manual that was revealed to 0.01% of us became law.

I would be obliged if someone could just explain the "vehicle" that was used to transport this secret into the law.

My POH has no knowledge of this law.

What training manual, No one has been able to produce this manual. People have been alluding to it but why not produce it? It does not exist

The page produced above as evidence is actually from the 1994 version of the maintenance manual, which as I reiterate, was superceded by the 1999 version of the same manual.

I for one think this is a fantastic new Law that they are pushing for. It has been long time coming that the microlight scrap that fills the air should be removed from the scene.

Last year December I had the chance to take a trike flip on the natal coast with Mr Daniels's crew. My word. Just before me one of the trikes failed with an engine seizure. The trikes were in terrible condition and definately not airworthy.

I also saw one of the Trike formation team's trikes at the Durban airshow at Virginia. ZU-ACB (I am trying to attach some photos) That trike should be grounded for sure. It has bent tubes, ripped wing sail and a very skew front wheel.

There were also a few guys at the old LaMercy field that used to fly real junk.

For this reason I think its great that the Law Makers are putting stricter controls in place to rid our skies of unairworthy aircraft.

I now dont feel so bad after paying R20k per year for an MPI on my certified craft. Its my ass in the hot seat.

I would like to see the evidence please...........

Isn't it funny how so many owners of certified aircraft come across as complete tossers?

  airlaw you *&$# (moderated) Does your mother know that you are playing on the computer?

FYI we did over 29 000 flights along the coastline for tourists, and trained in excess of 150 folk to fly, and if you bothered to do your homework you would find out to your embarrassment that we had already closed 7 months before your so called December flight.

Furthermore, we NEVER had any engine incidents at all during our entire period of operation, and were only involved in about 3 or 4 inflight incidents. Now, wait for it, yup you guessed wrong, all the incidents were with PPL fixed wing aircraft who almost flew into us and we had to take evasive action.

Come learn to fly a microlight, and like thousands of other senior PPL and Helicopter instructors around the world are starting to acknowledge, you will really learn to fly VFR and undertand the sky.....

Get a life man.........

PS, the engine failures on flights for tourist along the coastline around this area have all originated from the operation out of Ballito Airfield. Go slate them if you feel the need, but I, and the other users of this forum, would prefer positive contributions.

Now, go do a Dale Carnegie course .....

pps, this is a microlighters forum. A lot of us also fly other things as well, but we generally tend to support microlight flying on this forum, and if some of us are battling, we tend to help each other............

ppps....consider yourself lucky that I wrote you a nice mail

pppps.......nice to have something else to talk about for a change.
