Hi Skybound

The CAA in conjunction with Industry are working towards a Sport Pilot Licence, which might alleviate the current issue surrounding weights. It is not envisaged that the Microlight weights will change from 260 kg empty and 450 kg MTOW, the new Sport Licence shall accommodate the problem area of aircraft weighing between 450 kg and 600 kg. For the moment and until such time as the rule can be changed to the new licence the rules stand i.e. up to 260 kg and 450 kg MTOW, MPL and the rest above 450 kg requires a PPL.

Would also guess that 'until such time' could be some time off until all the problems and issues facing us with the new regs have been sorted out. Cant see them wanting to look at new regs until the current ones have been bedded in.

Reminds me of a contractor who stripped his 80 ton all terrain machine by 20% and submitted to the weighbridge. Authorities caught wind and evertime requested a permit, they demanded to re-weigh. Spent it's life scud running after 24h00 every trip.

Under correction I don't think there is a 3 axis Microlight with a 912 which is under 450kg's? I know about 1 Cheetah with a 912, but they made some mods to reduce weight. Also heard about a Fatboy 160 licensed as ML, but that seems strange given the figures from Jab SA.

What about the guys flying Stings, Cheetah's, Savannah, Samba etc with 912's?

What are you guys doing? Must admit if it we me I would be at a loss. Half says fly and F... the rest, but then what if something goes wrong. No insurance for plane or life which is not fair on those you leave behind? Tough one?

Our department bought us two Yuma's(copy of Savanna and CH701) to do surveys with. They were going to licence one(912) as Microlight and the other (914T) as light aircraft. Weights put them both in PPL category, thus I am busy with PPL at moment, from flying weight shifts before . PPL has way to much grief.
My weightshift has no brakes, instruments, fuel gauge, etc which equates to fun flying. PPl, check the brakes, check the fuel, check the flaps, check alles twenty times a minute and forget about the jackal on the runway,etc. equals no fun. I would rather fly a trike and take notice of what is happening around me and not faf about stupid overregulation that is being forced onto us.
