Are we screwed?

So now that the NTCA policy statement seems to indicate no relief regards Part 24 maintenance requirements in the short term (before 1 Jan) what are your plans?

I have a Proving Flight Authority valid to end April 2008. This document remains legal in my eyes until they send out a communication/directive/instruction contrary to the matter.

The proving flight authority is only valid whilst your aircraft is airworthy. If not maintained in accordance with the regs - it is no longer airworthy - hence the ATF is worthless.

Sure, but the Proving flight Auth is valid for 40 hours, and the next maintenance according to the regs is at 100 hours.

Frankly, I am a bit tired of the SACAA

Postby John Young » Wed Dec 12, 2007 10:15 am

Frankly, I am a bit tired of the SACAA and their associated codswallop. Their bureaucratic bungling leaves the amateur pilot dumbfounded.

Now it’s also back to language proficiency.

Right now, my views are –

1. I am going on leave soon for 3 weeks of flying (yes into January 2008)
2. I (right now) don’t give a continental FF for the SACAA and their circus of incompetents.
3. Next year I might as well go UFO with my middle finger raised at the SACAA - question “Is this your contact lens” :?:

Such a shambles - what a shameful all round display from people who earn good salaries.

You even have to pay to have licence and ATF renewals hand carried through the vestiges of what was once an orderly state of affairs.

SACAA – hold up a mirror and have a good hard look at yourselves.

Lets face it, in a country that you need to "create jobs" the following will happen:

1) I moth ball my trike at my house BUT will NOT sell her
2) No more doctor fees
3) No more Aero Club fees
4) No more Radio fees
5) No more MISASA fees
6) No more CAA fees
7) No more Hanger fees
8 ) No more AMO fees
9) No more spares (spark plug, ect) fees
10) No more taking up PDI kids for a flights
11) No more 2-stroke or petrol
12) No more traveling fees
13) No more club fees

This is ONLY for my 1 microlight, what about ALL the other aircraft

So MR CAA, OPEN your eyes, or must i draw you a picture

Are we screwed...

Postby John Boucher » Wed Dec 12, 2007 10:56 am

Of course we are screwed.... daily - by various different forms of interaction, politicians, NGO's, Government dept..... Oh my lord, the list is endless!!!!

I am forced to comply otherwise my aircraft is not legal for training purposes. Should an incident occur, have you given it some thought as to what legal repercussions I'll be faced with as well as the flying school?

I think CAA must just get their damn system sorted out, the quicker the better and stop trying to bum free joy rides when it suites them! Their communication channels are cluttered with "noise" and the they are surely flying IFR without the correct training or procedures in place!

Yeah, only problem being these new inspectors and ridiculous fines.

a Fine, well known, higly technical and well respected gentleman from the place I fly from has already joined the ranks of these inspectors, so not all of them will be palukas. They DO pose a serious threat to those operating illegaly.

To justify these new salaries, of course the pressure would be on to implement some fines in the process - no business unit appoint new employees without the intention to make more money from them. SARS has expanded their facilities for this exact same reason and it proved to be a huge success for them.

Oh, how I envy the guys operating from their own private fields...

I'll say you just have to think what the implecations will be when you have to your claim on your life insurance in case of and insedant to be able to make up your mind...... I suppose I'll comply. At least you will be able to resell when the day come that you can not afford to fly any more or to move over seas.

Hi Guys,

Calm down!

Read this first, Mike Blyth's view:
viewtopic.php?p=59453#59453

They are doing something about it, there are many problems, we and our maintenance is not the biggest problem. The 100 odd aircraft waiting to be registered are, can you imagine the value @ R400K average each (my guess) that is R400 Mio in financial assets that have been waiting. If you owned one would you like to be helped first compared to someone with a R10K crank maintenance problem???

They only have so much resources to tackle the MANY problems.

I really hope they give some direction SOON on our problems otherwise I will just keep the Status Quo, until a better direction is in place. That means I will keep on flying as per past illegal or not.

Regards
Rudi

I have read Mike's viewpoint, and quite frankly I have no confidence that a task team will be assembled AND that they will have an AIC/Notam out before next Friday providing relief from the regulations.

It just seems too much to be done in 1 week. CAA closes next Friday until after implememtation date.

But if they prove me wrong - it will be the second time ever that I have been wrong - the first time was when I thought I had been wrong and it turned out that I had been right

Actually I will be ecstatic if I am wrong.

In the medium term - yes I am sure something will come of it - but that wont help in the short term.
