Will be catching the TGV (high-speed train) from CDG to Strasbourg so that will be something different.

Flying in UAE

Postby Wart » Sun Dec 09, 2007 11:30 am

A very BIG thank you to Free Spirit who took me for a flight in her Samba yesterday up near Ras Al Khayman!! Awesome flying in very brown terrrain; very "old" mountains that are so rugged. Saw turtles in the sea, flamingos and camels browsing in an estuary.

Very nice flying club (Al Jazirah Aviation Club) which is the only GA airfield in UAE with some limitations on where you can fly. Basically it is flying around quite close to the patch but sometimes they do get permission to do some cross-country.

When you are here, head to this airfield and you will not be sorry.

Thanks again to Free Spirit!!!

Still in Dubai at the Gulf Traffic 2007 exhibition. In one of the halls next door there is an exhibition of jewelry etc. Saw a big armed presence yesterday when some of these items on display were being delivered.

Rumour is that there was a single piece of jewelry purchased yesterday for USD10million!!!

Off on Friday to Saudi Aarabia.

OK, I have been here a few times but this trip has been particularily pleasant. I have been introduced to a whole lot of new night-spots which I didn't know existed here. Getting insight into how the expats live here and how hard they play after hours! 'Playing' until 3am in the morning is an experience that I haven't experienced for a few years now.

I will be back...

Last day in Jeddah leaving tomorrow morning at about 4:15am. At least we will be travelling in the opposite direction to those coming for Hajj.

I must say that I have had my eyes opened to the ideals of Islam and that which we see on TV is only the sensational side of the extremists.

It has been a great trip and I am now looking forward to getting home, seeing my daughter and having a peaceful and relaxing Christmas.
