Hi everyone,
Yesterday afternoon I saw a trike operating for quite some time from Swartkops AFB.
This airfield is less that 2kms from my where I live. Has anything changed because I would LOVE to operate my Mizer from there - less time & expences driving which can go towards flying! Currently I spend as much time and costs driving as I do flying (don't we all!).
Anyway, it's nearly Christmas & I can dream, can I not? Hoping that someone knows something that I don't know & might allow me to also operate from there...

Hi Henni,
I have been there with the Battaleurs, that day there were a few trikes there as well but it was a special occasion. When the Defense flying club still existed I flew from there a few times in a Jabiru, awesome for a guy used to short dirt strips !
Hope to see you on the weekend,
Regards,
Rudi

Hi Rudi & all,
You WILL see me this weekend weather depending. My leave starts soon and I cannot wait to start with the revamping of my Mizer. Most prob do my last flight on Saturday before finally removing the engine to make place for the new one.
Yes, imagine a runway like this for the likes of a microlight pilot like me - I would think I was in heaven if I could use that strip as my base.
Last night a new type of high wing light aircraft operated from there - it's engine sounded different to anything I've heard before. It could not have been an experimental as it was flying IFR for hours way into the night and also into the storm.
Keep well,
Henni

Maybe a diesel engine. There are 2 or 3 diesel 172's at Rand. They sound completely different to normal 172.
