You are in SA and least go and take a look at the trikes, I am going to buy blind and take a risk, but all trikes shortlisted are trikes advertised on this forum.

It seems that most of the pilots listed here are people with integrity who care for the sport, look after their trikes.

Quite confident that I shall buy a good trike.

You guys missed out on one of the best buys of the year in the 503 category. Rudy's 503 Scout was just sold and I know that ML was in very very good condition, a sure winner.

I will also not say every 503 is a "donkey", as my ex Aviate Aspect with a 503 was faster than most of my fellow pilots 582.

I think if you go the 503 route consider 2 things, speed and lift of the wing.

If you weigh 80 kg's rather go for a wing that gives you more speed, but if you weigh 120kg's I will rather consider lift.

Out of experience I can definitely recommend a "Apect Wing" if you like speed and a light wing. If you want lift buy a "Aquilla 2 wing" but then the wing will be a bit heavier in flight.

Again this would be my considerations before purchasing a 503. Remember 503 is just the motor, the most important part is getting the right wing to match your needs!

Don't buy blind, that bargain once it arrives might not be that, especially the older models. Lot of the older trikes around is only good for a hoender hok. That said there are a few gems still around, it is these ones you want.

Check it out, start the motor and go for a flip, minimum.

Under donkeys you get some that can compete with bottom/middle end horses, all donkeys are not slow.

My view is that price is a function of supply and demand.

Yes, maybe people are moving away from a 503 but why then do people still battle to sell a 582. Surely demand for 582's would then have increased.

I think that its all demand and affordability driven. Interest rates have gone up 6 times in the last year. So cash is tighter and more people will hang on to their trikes for longer or sell if they need the cash and add to an over-supply on the used market which forces prices down even more.

I fly for fun and recreation and in a trike that has a huge advantage over a three axis so I do not believe that it is caused by people converting away from trikes.

In short my view is less spare cash available and too few new entrants into the sport.
