Yet another adventurer wanting to join the Cloud Warriors !

Postby JB » Wed Oct 17, 2007 2:10 pm

Hi all,

I'm very keen on learning to fly, being the average man on the street, with a passion for exciting things. I've done some preliminary information gathering on training facilities and such. Living in Kempton Park on the East Rand, it seems that Microland is the way to go....any suggestions?

I need to know some things and hope someone is able to help.
1) Cost. With 25hours to certification, what is the costs based upon and how does the model work? Are you charged per lesson / hour ? Is there a "base" charge? What kind of study materials do you need to purchase, and associations you have to join?

2) Startup requirements. Which equipment would I need from day one? Some information on current models of microlights, servicing, cost of hangerage etc. Good/Bad idea to buy used? What is required to keep it airworthy?

3) Certification : Is the MPL recognized internationally? Would I have to recertify for flying in another country?

4) Recommended safety equipment. Do I need a parachute? :)

As with everything is life, cost is a big factor, however I'm well prepared to pay for the best.

You only have one life to live...before you get married :D

Hey Peters,

Funny you say that, I'm huge into bike racing, have an 2006 CBR1000RR with 2x sets of complete gear and heavily race modified bike

However, I need fulfill another lifelong dream...invading the air :D Being "free" has allways been something I can't escape from. Scuba diving is bliss, competitive cycling is great, motorbike racing is bloody tops! 4x4'ing is fun too...BUT...I have to have more freedom from the rat race...

I can see that everyone here is EXTREMELY passionate towards flying and feel I can relate to that!

Woohoo!!!
