Hangerage required somewhere between Durbs and Maritzburg

Postby Bushpig » Tue Sep 25, 2007 1:45 pm

Hello everyone. Hopefully some of you can help me out. I am looking for some hanger space for a trike between Durbs and Maritzburg (preferably closer to PMB). It looks like I will be relocating down there sometime in the near future. Can anyone help me out, or provide me with some contacts that I can get hold of?
Thanks a million.

Speak to John Young (on here as John Young!!) He hangars at Light Flight at Cato Ridge, about 15 minutes drive from Pmb.

I know that they have just put up another trike hangar, there may be space.

you can also speak to the manager of the Pietermaritzburg Airport.

They are very microlight friendly, and you can apply to erect your own hangar there.

There are also a number of new hangars which are in the pipeline for erection at Maritzburg. Maybe you can get contact details from the manager, for the owners of these new hangars. I think his name is Hennie.

good luck.

For a short term solution you can also contact the owner/manager of Cato Ridge Airfield. The airfield has been sold, but short term hangerage is still available. PM me for his telephone number if you are keen.

Regards,
Mmmm. Pietermaritzburg...The new hangars will be very expensive as the municipality wants the hangar owners/builders to pay for the earthworks - on a 10 year lease, the earthworks alone for the new hangar for about 4 aircraft (3-axis) will cost in the region of R30 000. That is for taxiways etc , not the concrete slab for the hangar. And then you wtill have to build the hangar - also on a 10 year lease. Then after 10 years, the municipality owns everything. And you still have to pay to lease the ground from them..... me thinks not a good option to have to pay in the region of R2000 per month to hangar your trike. Light Flight, Emoyeni, etc are pretty full. There is a huge problem for microlight hangarage in this area!

Don't know about erecting your private hangar at PMB being easy - some people have been trying for ages to get this right, and the land at Oribi is apparently not "assigned" as airport land and has to be reclassified at the municipality and this doesn't appear to be moving forward.
