I supply gear to the Icom importers and they mentioned yesterday they have now locally available the Icom ICA 210 which is a upgrade to the ICA 200 with a decent intercom in it. Its not Tsod yet but is a reasonable contender for panel mount installations.
See http://www.icomradiosdirect.com/a210.html
I will be getting one next week to review and will post findings. The price is not confirmed but will be about R7,5k

Replacement for ICA 4
I received an update today that the ICA4 is being replaced in January to a supposed ICA14, rumours are that it is a ICF50/60 series but for Aviation usage. I have asked for a first import sample to evaluate. Its got to be really good to replace the ICA4 !! It apparently is waterproof and mil spec. Icom are playing catch up with Vertex at this stage.
I get the first ICA210 this week apparently??, I will be making a cell phone and ipod interface as soon as I get one. So you can use existing GA headsets with it. I will most probably make it so you can adjust mic gain on the fascia as this is a problem with "mismatched" GA headsets into existing ICA 200s.
Watch this space.

Hiya Graham
Graham; as you know I am a Icom dealer but I honestly advise people what I consider the best for the job and after a few "words" with Icom today. I still advise people Vertex Standard at present as I consider them better at this stage...had a discussion with them about why they are not importing ICA4s as so many have come in grey over the last few months.
Dof answer from them I am afraid, they don't know their own market !! and they brought in only 20 last month..pathetic to say the least..Keith Pickersgill imports his own as do many others.
The ICA 4 is still the best for paragliders.
Anyway I may come down to the Cape for a few days to sniff out an agent down there for our gear and also for our security toys also..
ciao Zulu1

Damm... just finished the Sav with the ICA200 with an external intercom (PS Engineering), this would have been nice ! Price would have been less than the A200 & Intercom, plus less weight.ZULU1 wrote:

Ah well... at least the bracket is compatible, may change out and use the intercom space for a transponder later...
Look forward to your report... the A200 is a fantastic radio, if the new one compares then this has the makings of a fine, reliable solution.
Cheers ian
