MPL-Wanting to start training

Postby Maverik » Wed Sep 05, 2007 4:00 pm

Hey guys,

My name is Chris I just joined the forum today and would like to find out the info, I was budgeting on doing my PPL but the rates suddenly changed, and honestly all I wanna do is fly whether it be in a plane, microlight or glider I have had this craving since I was a very young boy and got turned away from SAA cadet pilot training (Due to BEE), now that the rates on PPL has gone up i have taken the intiative to find out how I could get flying ASAP and came to the conclusion That I would like to fly mircolights I have been once with my uncle in his microlight, The trip was awesome we flew panarama to the vaal.

But now my question is Where could I do my MPL? The costs Involved? Medicals and radio Licence? and what do I need( Radios head sets ect..)?

I live on the east rand in kempton park right at the end of the JHB International Runway 21...

Could someone please assist me in my interests

Kindest Regards Christopher :D

If the runway is wider than it is long, rethink your circuit.

3 axis or trike.
Costs are similar, but after qualifying a windlass is cheap, available and affordable (Around R50k). 3 axis is more expensive. Should be able to do MPL for around R20K all in.

Good luck...

Hi Maverick, fasten your seat belt and welcome to the asylum!

IMHO nothing beats the joy and terror of flying a microlight.

A quote for today:
“The ultimate responsibility of the pilot is to fulfil the dreams of countless millions of earthbound ancestors who could only stare skyward and wish.”

Welcome Maverick

Browse though the posts here in the Training Talk forum, there is lots of information here

Also look at Microlight Clubs, Training Schools and Flight Centres

There are a number of Schools in the Bapsfontein area which is ideal for you.

If you are intending going the PPL route eventually then make sure you do the PPL groundschool now instead of the MPL. This will save you from having to redo goundschool later.

Good luck and have fun

Welcome to the madness mate....

your opening paragraph looks like it was written by any one of us. If you have a love for aviation and all things flying you have landed in the right place.

On a serious note - This is probably one of the best places to find information. I would Love to tally up the thousands upon thousands of hours that the ladies and gents on this site have. The experience and wisdom that the members of this forum have is priceless... you wanna know something just ask, and the answer will be provided. Sometimes you have to sift through four pages of crap, but the answer will be there.

So - Rhino park is up the road, Petit, Bapsfontein, Microland all are near to your part of the world.

My advice is look for a club that you enjoy being at from a members point of view as well. Sadly sometimes the weather prevents us from taking to the air, but doesnt really matter if you have a good bunch of lads at the field..

Enjoy mate... (^^)

Closer to home is better. Becomes a schlepp when you hit the wall (which you will at some stage) to drive long hrs for a short flip.

25hrs of the MPl can be credited towards PPL, so i would suggest get MPL 3 axis first and get flying. 50hrs for PPL is a looooong time especially if tight budget. I took 18 months to get my PPL due to budget and it was not fun. It was very hard o justify when all my mates (with cash or rich daddy's) were drilling holes in he sky... Nothing beats doing it yourself and there have been huge advances in aeries in recent past. many of the "microlights" are same aeries you would train on in PPL environment.

There is very little difference between MPL and PPL training.generally. Have a look at budget and unless you can afford to go PPL in quick time, I would suggest 3 axis MPL and then get ome time under your belt.

Only difference between PPL and MPL is a couple extra pax, higher fuel burns etc. If you want to fly, get in air ASAP and then get PPL while you are able to fly as well.

:D Old yes :!: ...the bold don't live long...Got it from my skydiving instuctor. "the actual pic u see" is of me of my very first jump taken by David's wife Lynn. After watching skydiving video's and seeing some guy's base jumping. In the back ground on the rocks "THE QUOTE" loved it from when i set my eyes on it. Nothing nicer than the sky...was such a fanatic for the shute's, the freedom, the height and the adrenalin! Got to the stage now that i wanna fly myself. Just float through the air beholding the magnificent bla bla bla...can words ever discribe this feeling :?:
