Fly Inn's vs Airshow

Postby The Agent » Mon Aug 20, 2007 11:09 am

Lets see what the rest of you guys have to say.

Me I personally think that a well organised Fly In is much better and more fun than a Airshow.
Yes have a few events during the course of the day but in a casual manner.
I am saying that from a pilot's point of view.
We are or most of us are use to seeing the airshows and use the day's to mingle with our counterpart aviators.
Airshows are more for the public in my humble opinion.
Afterall the exibitors who are of interest to us are the aviation people we are not interested in the fleamarket shit on sale, that is where the public's monies are taken.
At a fly inn the aviation people will still support the companies with aviation goods on sale.

Just take the fly Inn to Baberton or to the field next door at Brain's place.
So much more fun but the minute the UBERS want to run it then it's me goodbye.

So in a nut shell aviation clubs must arrange the fly inns and generate a bit of money perhaps for some additions to a club house or what ever.

My list that I will attend again starts with.
1. Rustenburg
2. Krugersdorp
3. East London ( best so far ) BAC
4. Springs
5. Wonderboom (could be a nice venue)
6. Orient glider boys ( great day)
7. Rand ( can be done)

OK open for comments.

I vote for flyins, Agent covered most of the reasons, also if u'r not a display pilot then u'r just a commener at airshows not even aloud at your own plane

Fly inns only.

Expand to new product fly demo's / air aftermarket exhibit / sales e.g. GPS, radio, ballistic, Easyplan e.t.c.

Offer for private second hand aeries exhibit.

Then offer exhibits to Lodges/ hotel / development - friendly aviation resorts.

Breakfast cost to include a parting flour bomb run - prize donated by exhibitor.

Yip,I agree too,and I had more fun with a Russian Yak aviation day they had at Vereeniging a couple of years ago,and I had a great time socializing with pilots and aviators, such as Brad Bennets etc,but in overall,I had a great time, and this years Rand airshow was a bit dissappointing...

Kind regards

You must put Carnarvon on your list! Awesome fly-in in the middle of the Karoo and very well arranged. I sure enjoyed it!

Barberton was very good. Also Hippo Pools.
