Flying in Tanzania

Postby ZS-NEL » Sat Jul 28, 2007 2:37 pm

While, Masimo and friends crying about the wx and calling off the one flight after the other, I'm sweating my bud off in almost 32 deg just a stone throw from the equator. Flying almost every day, including night stops in Nairobi to pick up some young delicious ladies from the states who came here to see real lions and elephants. 8)

Only one problem. I've been employed to fly microlights for anti-poaching operation and game counts, but in the 3 weeks up here have not seen one single microlight yet. Not that I mind, got to do a tutorial in starting up and shutting down the boss’s G550 (got the Gulfstream cap to proof that :P ) and enjoying myself flying the caravan from the right seat and showing the cool ladies where the emergency exits are  . Hopefully in a week or two I might be going to the Serengeti to do what I’m be paid for......... mmm serious trike flying

Hi Stan,

Indeed the Sea Cliff Hotel in Dar. Had to write exams in Dar at the TCAA.

Ngorogoro crater very impressive - flying over it daily, but very often its covered in cloud. Landed on a strip just on the edge of the crater. (can't remember the name now). Also flew passed mount Kili a couple of times, but have not seen it yet....always covered. :(

Northren air is based at Arusha airport. But I will be flying from Mbono camp near the Mwanza area soon.

Sounds like you know this area well.

P.S.Sorry about the stutter guys, can someoene tell me how to delete the duplicate post?

Hey Marius you killing me here...must be really awesome up there

And to all real aviators outhere......who's up for a real adventure? We fly up and go visit Marius in Tanzania :D

Will take some real planning but man what an adventure of a lifetime. Will probably need to take at least a month off. Well maybe 3 weeks if we all got GT's

First let me ask is this actually possible, and then anybody interested :?:
Maybe im putting myself in k@k now puff

Ofcourse we're interested Massimo but 1 month eish besides I'm sure we'll have to cart up his trike...if Blue Angel is up to it.

What annoys me is he's meant to be flying trikes and he keeps sending me pictures of hotels, beaches, beers and cockpits.  I think his boss bought all the planes that come with Flight Sim X!

I’ve been quiet for a few weeks and now I’m getting it from all of you. One needs to work sometimes. :( Just came out the bush and sleeping in Nairobi tonight. Back in office tomorrow for a week or so. Done some serious flying (in a trike Diesel Fan) will post some pics. Took off early mornings in about Gale force winds and at 10am, still flying, the wind starts dropping ………….dropping trees. First time it was very scary  as I could not reach the runway. Power off don’t help as you are going down but backwards. You need just about full power to move forward but then you can not come down, Eish, so you hover back and forth for some time and only use very little runway.

OK Massimo start planning, wil find out from this side what needs to be done at TCCA. They do have a LOT of paper work here.
