Special Rules West Flyers - Need Info Please...

Postby RudiGreyling » Thu Aug 02, 2007 7:39 am

Hi Guys,

some of us on the Far East want to venture into the Wild West for a trippie around JHB via Harties. I would appreciate if some of you Western Flyers give me some help that know the area.

OK I have been to Panarama and back before, I've been through Pinedene corodor before, but here's my queries for the areas further WEST.

1) Is the direct leg from Panarama to Krugersdorp possible, how densly populated is it? My Auth To Fly allows to fly over build up areas but not for extended periods.

2) Is Krugersdorp still so MicroLight Unfriendly? It says no Micros for 5 Miles? We would have liked to make it our 1/2 way stop. What alternatives exist.

3) What is the flying rules in around Harties dam, I don't want to upset anyone, or cause havoc for local flyers. We want to fly along the southern side of harties shores.

Thanks in advance.
Rudi

Ja, "may" but don't want to extend the dog leg, unless I have to, hence my querie to guys flying in the area, since it does not show as populated in my map.

I gathered from Avcom a while back that Demon had a bad experience at Krugerdorp Airfield.

:?: Is FAKR a private or public/municiple airfield.

I have heard they are nasty FAKR's when it comes to micro's. Any particular reason bearing in mind there are homebuilts flying from there?

It is mainly cos certain Persons (singular) have bigger chips on their shoulders than others, they are scared of us fellows who fly real aircraft, and not tin cans. >;(((

Rather just go to crosswinds and stay more than 5Miles clear of FAKR just to help retain your sanity ! ##

IIRC it Municpal.

From this thread on Avcom
SA Flyer Fly-in & Spot Landing - NEW DATE! - 1st Septemb

All aircraft are welcome including helicopters and microlights (with 2-way communication) for the fly-in.

For full story check with Redeye. He was a trike driver and is based there and knows the story. I know there was a thread either on here or avcom some time back covering it, but can't find it now.

Krugersdorp - not friendly towards Microlights??
Mauler wrote:FAKR is owned by the municipality and leased by the Krugersdorp Flying Club.

As I understand it, the rule is that only microlights owned by members may be flown from the field, and then only if the pilot is at least a PPL.

The reasoning behind the rule, I'm told, is that there is a lot of training activity and fairly large aircraft traffic, particularly on weekends. So, the reasoning goes, lots of microlights in the circuit may be problematic.

I think the rule came about from pressure from the training organisations.

Don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger!

Hmmmm, this smells of blatant discrimination

I was wondering where to fly to this weekend, I think I now know.....

This should be fun  I just spoke to someone who would LOVE to handle the kind of case, looks like he might be joining me.

DO NOT GET ME STATED ON FAKR............the guys that are friendly are real friendly but the guys that are rude well they are really rude. I will not name names here but I will say this, FAKR is a munisipal airfield and they CANNOT tell you that you cant land there as it only leased from the munisipality and not owned. I dont want to start something here but I have enquired about this and that was the answer that was given to me. I personally feel that it isnt worth the trouble and it is a crappy field to land at anyway.

my 2c.

p.s. I never say anything regarding this field ever again.
