A true "Clip Wing" pilot would refer to that particular aircraft by its other name

Ask Phil - Something to do with the amount of fun that can be had in the airy - He, and the others I am told have a special name for it

Having fun there Dish?

You will remember that DH and I are also doing convex on a Chalenger

I find myself in a paculiar situation where over weekends I have to choose between going for a lesson in the Challenger doing circuits and landings (boring) or flying my trike in the most awesome weather over the most awesome scenery...... I keep saying - Next week - But then next week when I check I am overhead roodekoppies again in the Gemini with a big dumb smile on my face

Havent been for a 3 axis lesson in a while now

Challenger

Postby Dish » Wed Jul 25, 2007 3:21 pm

Howdy Lads,

Not back in the air (in my plane) quite yet, but Braam is replacing the belt and making sure its 1000% correct. Should be completed by this weekend.

Reason I asked is that Destructor Phil, who is always as reliable as can be, MIGHT have to be away this weekend due to some family commitments. This MIGHT mean no flying this weekend, which would be nothing short of a freeking disaster. Now before i start spitting my dummy completely out of the playpen, He might be here, in which case we WILL fly (weather permitting)... But if he isnt here i was hoping to find a qualified guy who was perhaps interested in having a flight on saturday mornin in my plane. ?
NEWSFLASH - Graham (agent) is cooking wors rolls (bring your own wors and beer, NO beer if your flying out) @ Rhino on saturday... morning.

So it could be a good morning, would be nice to be airborne though, anyway, im trying to be proactive IN CASE Destructor cant make it. If he can join us for wors anyway..

Soooo thats that.

Dish,

I would love to help you but alas I am in Cape Town. You wanna come down?  I'll happily take you up in a selection of Challies

Alternatively the next time I am up in the big smoke I'll post it on the web and we can go for a little flip.

wrt the Clipped Wing is yours one :?: My ex AUK    was a beautiful little aerie with clipped wings. CAA have joined the two ratings into one so if you are rated on clipped then you can also fly long wing and vice versa.

challenger

Hey Morph

ANYTIME your in the big smoke drop me a ine and we can fly. Hopefully by then i might actually have my license.

Interesting that you mention the conversion. Yip mine is a clip wing and its beautiful. Because of the belt failure last week the plane asnt ready to fly last weekend so Phil destructor flew to rhino on saturday and we did about 45 mins in the long wing version.

WOW

How different they are. Clip wing is so much more responsive, doesnt climb quite as well but the differences are so noticeable. I didnt really enjoy the long wing as much as the short. Dont get me wrong its also an awesome little airie, but man, glides like a frikking eagle and you have to coerce it down to the runway even if you have a little throttle open. Great experience but give me a short wing anyday...

Ahh well - so long as were in the air..

Big D, I am in the same boat or rather plane as you, everytime I find myself flying with the guys in the trike and I don't push mysyelf to get the conversion done to the challenger, another day stays another day especially if it is such nice flying days. Now the trike has developed a little problem, cylinderhead stud broke and therefor might as well replace rings decoke etc.

This seems to be the right time to focus on the challenger and I know once done I will kick myself for delaying.
