Prop Drive System

Postby salem » Fri Jul 20, 2007 7:55 am

Can anybody give me the pros and cons of changing a belt-and-pulley prop drive system to a chain-and-sprocket system. At first glance it would appear to me that one is trading off additional system reliability and strength (especially if using a double or triple link chain) for a marginal increase in weight.

Chains are messy if properly lubricated and if not they rob a serious amount of power (ask any old 50cc bike rider...). Sprockets wear out and chain tension needs a lot of adjusting. They can be noisy too..

IMHO belts are better especially the newer kevlar type. Just change them more often if it is peace of mind you want
