Not quite flying, but related in the sense that it has kept me from flying the past two weeks - see the link from the main page of http://www.zu-dve.com for my holiday pics in Turkey, where we had one day at 50 Celcius.

A great day of flying with Hans, Dick and Graham. Did some formation flying and Graham took a lot of pictures. He will post later. See
http://www.zu-dve.com for the log. 3.5 hours
Mark, no, the pictures is deceptive. There was a patch of cloudless sky stretching from Morningstar to the sea - if you look at the picture on the log you will see the coast was clear, so to speak.
"Robin Hood", yes the trip to Ladysmith via Matjiesfontein was great. The runway at Matjiesfontein is just 500m from town. We landed there, and walked to town. Once we got to town, a certain Baldheaded Eagle became restless about the trikes standing on their own, and we had to head back before we could really explore.

very good reason why ag pilots doen't use a radio... they don't have too. Flying nap of the earth dodging telephone lines and fences the last thing you need to worry about is a radio. I believe they are not required to use a radio... They are brightly coloured and usually right down on the deck.
Also a few trucks parked at your, usually deserted, favourite farm strip is usually a good clue that there is an ag plane around.
I counted 4 in one flight up the berg river valley to tulbagh last month.

Oh yes I agree, we normally know when they are around - but i am more worried about the ones we don't know about. A call every 30 minutes or so would be OK. More interesting would be to know whether or not they are listening - in which case I would feel slightly better. I heard that that story about no necessity to transmit if you are below 1500 or so no longer applies.
