Quentin
Replace your spark plugs, and look if the plug wires is still in place. The fact that the motor still runs with one mag switch off, sounds like only one plug is not working.
Hope for the best

Probable caue:
a)No 2 mag is dead
b)No 2 mag is already switched to ground
c)No 2 mag "live/input" wire to the switch is open circuit

Suggested actions:
a) remove all four plugs and MAKE 100% SURE you have them grounded to the engine.(how you do that is your problem, I won't be holding them in my hand though :D ) Spin the starter and check for spark
b) remove the "ground side" wire from the switch and connect a temporary wire. Throw the switch and touch this temp. wire to ground and see if the rpm drops
c) Use a multimeter to check for continuity from the charging coil to the input side of the switch

For what it's worth, my guess is you broke some connection/wire whilst working on it......

Have tested if there is a signal between the 2 wires going to the inside of the engin....

What he mean is that we tested the two sets of white and green wires leading from the loom into the motor. One set gives us 285 ohm and the other set is open circut.

Please make sure you're not chasing around in circles by performing the simple tests I described or by eliminating those items.

If it is as you're describing it.........then sorry for you. Pull the flywheel and get to the stator. The green/white leads should have anything from 280 - 330 ohm resistance. In your case 285 is good. The other one is BAD NEWS :(

BTW...is your starter fitted at the back by the flywheel or do you have an E box with a starter?

Listen guys

I have JUST had EXACTLY the same problem. Not to say my problem was the same as yours. One of the wires from the magnetos had broken off RIGHT against that black box thingie, INSIDE the covering. Solowings gave me good info. I "jiggled" each wire and listened to revs while engne was running. Eventually isolated wire broken andmanaged to re-connect it. Has been working like dream since for about 6 hours.

Incidentally, a bit earlier I lost all charging on my battery (no current to the pod). Was also told that I would have to replace stator. After opening, it was discovered that one of the wires had also boken off inside the covering where it connects to the coils. Opened it, soldered, re-covered and that has held for over two years.

Quentin, look for the wire you damaged when you worked on the starter. That's why I asked whether it was in the back or not :D :D
