What is the normal/safe age that people let kids climb on a trike? My son is 4 and all he wants to do is fly with dad.

That is up to you as his dad. I for one won't do it. My daughter was 10 when she first flew with me with no problem. The problem I can see is that they do not sit still and if something happens you will be in deep s....t.
I think you will be taking a BIG chance with a 4 year old
Just my 2 c worth

I don't think you can put a deffinate age on it
It depends on the individual child, and on you

If the child is happy and you happy start with taxing st and see how it goes
I am not a trike pilot but I would tend to think 4 is still a bit young :?:

The best briefing you can give your pax is to tell them that flying is very stressfull and that you suffer from neck spasms and the only thing that helps is a neck message wilst flying. JUST MAKE SURE IT IS A FEMALE PAX. :!: :!:  Sometimes you lucky and they believe you  if not give them a roofie ride

Briefing

Interesting Subject - a week or two back softness decided to join me at the airfield, she is VERY supportive of my hobby but is NOT and has never been good at flying. Hates every minute. Long story short, curiosity got the better of her and Phil took her for a circuit. He went into great detail about exactly what would be happening and how. Explained every little move that he would make. She returned with such a flipping (no pun intended) big smile, it took three days to get it off her face. !!!! :D :D :D

The point ? Have a serious word with Pax before take off, include them in everything you do so that nothing is a surprise and hence they enjoy it sooo much more. The jury is still out on whether the sofnesses change of attitude is a good thing or a bad... Might just find i have a full time pax now?????

Just pondering, is it good to fly with own softness as pax, if something goes wrong its double trouble, maybe with flying its better to softness swop with friend's softness as pax when flying together. [/img]

Tobie

Again its up to the individual but if you have kids it can be a good idea

 However are the risk stats higher that something should happen to you when flying verses driving together in a car :?:

My softness will not get into a plane with somebody else because she trusts me and feels that she wants to share my passion of flying with me and not somebody else. There is nothing better to go for a brekkie with your softness in the trike or blikkie for that matter
It is like driving a bike, car, airline or anything else, the risk will always be there no matter what. I do tend to be more carefull when we fly together and do the straight and level thing

Ya, most if not all softness only want to fly with own hubbies etc. trust them, and I agree, its the sharing that counts most of all.

Yip - The only reason Phil took her for the flip is because im not allowed to --- yet !! Most softness wil only fly with the hardness ??? Hey, to each his own... so long as were all in the air..

Interesting post, I have read the previous ones for interest but now weather permitting will do a flight test this weekend (not looking ideal at the moment wind wise). So it is particularly interesting now.
I have every man woman and child I know wanting to be taken up for a flip. The problem with my son is he already thinks he is bullet proof on the quad, I tend to agree with the general concensus around age though. One of my concerns is a the seatbelt. And in particular with young pax should they have a restraint that they would be able to open themselves???
I think flipping anyone below a legal age leads to many questions and debates.
My wife went up with instructor just after I went solo and can't wait for me to complete the licence so she can fly along.
I think there are many questions still to be answered.

It's weird how we will ask ppl to sign forms before we take em flying yet don't ask anyone when we take them in a car?!

I think flying IS safer than driving, you just have to be out after 7 on a saturday night to confirm this...had an jackass driving on wrong side of the highway at over a 100, ran my buddy up the pavement

Point is howcome we SO concerned with flying yet not with taking our buddies kids to the movies.
