Hey Harlequin, cool Pic's did you take them during May 07, we had no flying here wind kept us on the ground, FASB is like that if the wind is any thing to do with North you do maintenance on the plane. Super Flying. Jannie

Afternoon Jannie.
Took these last weekend, flew with the Wintervogel chaps around the cabbage patch and then met up with Gert and went upcoast to some game farm for a breakfast ( almost breakfast ), could not land safely and just had a great morning in the air as you see.

Question to the beach flyers, has anyone not been able to tack off due to sand? Is it critical to have wide tyres fitted?

Morning Diesel Fan.
If you look at the pics and see the tracks made, wide tyres make almost no indentation. Less than a persons footprint. So no environmental damage etc.
On the Francois pic note the landing tracks.
Big NB, land on the hard stuff, know the area, dont use brakes !
We all have wide tyres on this occasion, I know some chaps with narrow wheels and will revert again after I speak with them on their experience.

I have also flown in the Northern Cape extensivly and landed on sand with the wide tyres without any issues at all.

Thanx Harlequin, my concern is that my tyres are pretty narrow and would love to do some touchngoes, damage to environ is last of my concern cause I know how little a trike can do if at all!

Please let me know what your mates say!

Us guys with European trikes all have narrow tyres and we would like to do some beach landings in the future. So any info on minimum width, etc would be welcome.

My front wheel only is wide. The other 2 are a bit narrow me thinks and changing them is not an option, as I have spats.

If flying to the coast we can take spats off, my prob is then front wheel...

DF I am not sure about your air creation, but P&M say one should NEVER fly without the spats on the quik, gt450 or blade, as this will reduce
undercarraiage stability and cause the undercart to wobble, sway and oscillate
rather just let the tyres down a bit

It will cause it to sway but my guess would be only at higher speeds. So I reckon if flying at coast I don't do over 75 it should be ok. Ultimate would be to keep them on.

Are there anyplaces one can practice a beachlanding inland, where I can taxi to an alternative if I can't takeoff? I know Botswana roads is one...but some closer to home?
