Wanted: Quicksilver MXII
Hi G,
Thanks - I am now totally at ease with my choice. Actual performance is much better than expected - it's been a long while since I've flown in the type as a PAX.
I'm leaving early tomorrow morning for Saldanha & should be back with new aerie by weekend.
Will contact Pieter next week some time. Thanks again for the info. Apologies for not buying your KRII, but this one came at a very good price which means a lot for me.
Regards,
Henni

Hi Slabfish & all,
At last, I'm back! 1600km there & 1600km back plus 300km to Cape Town & back to fetch the trailer - boy, what a drive.
Fuel consumption to Saldanha 8.2 l/100km, but back 16.8!!! Can you imagine my fuel bill?
I am extremely delighted however - she is everything I've hoped for & then more. Flew her for 3.5 hours in Saldanha before de-rigging. Spent 1 hour doing circuits purposely in the normal very strong Saldanha afternoon wind.
Clem, you were right. What a pleasure to fly. I doubt if I will ever stop flying again due to wind. Crosswind is no longer any problem - aileron control is excellent. Flaps is super effective. Cruises easily at 60mph & even 70mph at 6000rpm. Will go to 80/85 if I increase the rpm even more, but hesitant to fly in that envelope (I'm always kind to my engine!)
Rotax 582 with electric start, dual ignition, carbon fibre ground adjustable 3 blade prop, instruments - I can just go on and on.
Morph, thank you once more for the link. Agent, thank you for bashing some sense into my head when I still considered a Skyfox - I promise you, my desire for a Skyfox is over for good - I've found something much better.
I am amazed that there are not more Mizers flying around. Mine is only the MK2A, so I can only imagine how much better the more advanced versions must be.
Ex MXII goes to Witbank this weekend & immediately thereafter I'll rig the Mizer up for flying.
Note: If you can find a Mizer anywhere, be sure to get it. You'll be impressed, same as me. It is the nicest aircraft I've ever flown, including the Koala. They seem to go for cheap and are most probably the closest real airplane you'll find for the money spent in the lower price range bracket. I really mean what I say. It is one solid & well built aerie. The Mizers should still have been in production today, even by the latest standards. (Bert, are you listening?)
Boy, has grassroot flying in Saldanha picked up since I used to live there - 12 Trikes, 3 Ravens, 2 Bushbabies, 1 Jabiru, 1 Koala (my old one which has now been beautifully restored), 1 Challenger, 1 Jodel, 1 Gyrocopter - and that's only the ones I saw in action! I could not see inside the rest of the hangers. Well done to Johan Froneman down there! I'm sure he played a major role in all of this happening.
C205, you've found yourself a good deal & so did I. Even with the high cost of fuel, accomodation & the trailer rental, I still consider myself lucky to have found this deal. Not every story has such a perfect ending. Ex Mizer owner paid nearly R600 000 for his new Foxbat! (What a nice guy - I made some good friends over there)
Enough babbling for now (I actually have to stop myself as I've got too much to preach on the Mizers). Really missed this forumn whilst away.
Regards,
Henni

Hi Morph,
I've visited Ron & some of the other guys at Morningstar on Friday. I enquired about you as I really wanted to shake hands with you whilst in the area. Unfortunately you were not in at the time, so I told the guys to relay my regards to you.
Swell bunch of real flying enthusiasts over there - had all the maps laid out on a table planning an extensive cross country flight for the next few weeks.
Everytime I phoned Ron, he answered whilst flying! What more can I say.

Hi everyone,
Clem, I will post some pics soon.
To round off my contribution to this thread: Rigged the Mizer up for flying and flew her on Saturday.
Flew ex MXII from Siera Romeo to her new home (Benedic) in Witbank on Sunday (Yesteday). Very, very strong & gusty headwind! C205, I wish you many, many happy flying hours with her. She has never let me down. Not even once. Hope you would be able to say the same in the future.
O.K. life's back to normal for me. The biggest change for now is to get used to the much longer runway requirements of the Mizer. I'm not used to the ground rumbling so furiously under the wheels before actual liftoff. It feels akward every time. If it was a nice long and smooth tarred runway, it would not have botherted me. But Siera Romeo is not too smooth and there are always squatters walking or cycling on it which makes it even more difficult.
But alas, I'll get used to it eventually.
Regards,
Henni
