Try Fred 083-256-1873 at Spring Airfield, his school is next to Rainbow Aircraft

Lets see I had the oven gloves - the oness that hook on bar, plus first ascent snow gloves with a double inner lining and I can promise you now after 30 mins, there is now feeling left.

I think this is a freak cold front, check out the Durban pics!

Nothing to worry about  DF at 4 deg C and cruising at 55 mph the windchill is -5

If the temperature is -10 deg C and cruising at 55 mph, the windchill is -24 deg C. Only then exposed skin can freeze in 30 minutes which causes frostbite

We need a serious drop in temp to -10 deg before flying is a no go :D and remember keep your flying time less than 30min

Thanks Cobra.
The weather looks a bit warmer for Saturday (min 6C), so let's hope I don't need the bar mitts. :?
Some days it's not even worth chewing through the restraints

Chill Cheaters and Bar Mitts

Postby ZULU1 » Fri May 25, 2007 7:53 am

Rob Allen Spearguns in Durban makes bar mitts from Neoprene. If enough interest I can contact him to arrange some more manufacture ??

As a add on to our very popular visor bibs I have made some "sleeves" we call "Chill cheaters" with the exact same design as the Royal Navy use for flak bibs, but out of fleece. Same material as supplied to our popular clothing brands. They have a stiff neoprene back to prevent the neck from sliding down. The Royal Navy did the development of this one for me... The sleeve has a Velcro tab on the four corners to secure on a sweater before the flying suit is put on. The neck of the flying suit seals it as they cover the chest and back.

The Royal Navy started (and I) finalised the development. I made them to mate with the visor bibs. These fit on Buzzcom, Lynx and Speakease helmets.

We sell them as individual or as part of a kit either from ourselves or our distributors.

Chill cheaters in red or black, bibs in black or white all ex stock.

In our testing they steam up so the visor has to be lowered just prior to take off, they completely eliminate wind in to the helmet.

Picture shows our helmet. The unit is designed such as the cups are attached to the helmet which allows this to sit much lower reducing cold air in.

Zulu1 - that guy in your pic (is it you?) really has a face for radio! Please don't publish that photo anywhere else ;)

Sillyness aside:

I have a visor with bib supplied by yours truly and it is awesome! Problem is the fitting to the XL Buzzcom helmet I have - the outer screws come loose and then you have a dangerous flapping visor mid flight!

I will be ordering an orange helmet, visor, bib combo soon! Hyena made off with my budget!
