It is with great shock and disbelieve to report this morning that Microland is closed. This area is well known for sinkholes and it happened during the early hours of this morning when a 30m diameter hole about 8meter deep appeared right in the middle of runway 03/21 and it is spreading fast towards the hangers. Evacuations have started to save about 80 planes. No planes can be trailored out as the hole took away the road. The only way out is to take off from 09 regardless of what the windsock says and take the planes to the safety of neighboring fields. There are already 20 trikes standing outside of Babsfontein with no hanger space, and the owner’s advice all to fly their planes somewhere else. I did take some great photos this morning as a lot of pilots started to fetch their planes but out of shock dropped my camera from 6000ft overhead.
