Tailspin,
Will you be flying your VP1 on a MPL licence, what are the CAA requirements?

Hi Flykr

I was hoping but it looks like i will be about 35kg's over the MPL weight. The CAA require the craft to be under 201kg's and i worked it out to final empty weight to 235Kg's - Been looking at converting to ppl but @ R1000 per hour it is going to take a while.

I seem to have the same problem, the VP1 I have is 278 empty so need PPL to fly it. Have asked Andre from CAA to re-look at the classification as it was done years ago….will let you know if the outcome is in our favour.

Hi All

Finished the taping and finishing touches of my wings this weekend. Now i start to nitrate - butrate + Alu paste and then colour her. I will add pic's promise just connection is very very slow so cannot justify adding pic's from home.

Hi
It is with very sad heart i haveto report the following. :?
Monday night i decided to start on the butrate dope with alu paste - no problem you say :?: i started to mix up a batch of alu paste with some MEK to thin it so it can pour and mix easyer with the butrate  the glass bottle i was shaking the paste in had a flaw and well you can imagine, some squirted out and the bottle slipped from my grubby paws, the bottle hit the floor and litrelly shattered. The following items are now no more - 1 X antique coffee table now is now with an aluminium finish - 1 X digital camera - 1 X dancing studio floor - 1 X black work shoes - 1 X black work pants - 1 X digital camera bag. AND one really pissed off wife who still has not spoken to me :(

But i have finished one wing which is ready to paint now. Going to take the wife away for a few days and maybe i can recover some of the loss.

I think you can add one more casualty to your list. I think I damaged myself laughing at this! Good luck cleaning up. Hope you dont have to replace the wife.

Nope finally got her to understand it was an "Accident" (-) I have though noticed that she has been eyeing my credit card with alot of interest ad i am trying not to fall into that trap (**)

Did some more work and started finishing the second wing will add more pics tomorrow.

Did some more painting and getting the wings ready for final colours etc. You can clearly see the Butrate with Alu paste as it go's on dries very quickly even in a cold room

Great inspiration to the rest of us impecunious dreamers - keep it up & you'll soon be flying. Just find yourself a 10 kg PPL instructor & you can do your conversion in the VP!
